Where to keep your card?

Why do people carry their driving licences (unless they look younger than 18)?! I take mine only when I really need it - to collect a parcel or, very rarely, when I need to prove my ID in a bank.

My physical debit and credit cards are in a wallet locked away at home along with my passport and driving licence. When I’m out I use Apple Wallet or cash - in a small coin purse in the car mainly for parking, and a couple of 20s hidden inside my phone case.
Long ago I memorised my credit card details so that I don’t have to dig my card out every time I buy something online.

I've carried mine since I had a car breakdown and wasn't able to be provided with a hire car as I had no licence, or other means of identity, with me. As I carry a wallet anyway it is no hassle to have it with me.

I carry my driving licence as I drive, and have had to show it at police road checkpoints when stopped.

And how often do you get stopped? I don't even know what 'road checkpoints' are.
And, even if you get stopped, you don't have to show it there and then:
If you do not have these documents with you, you have 7 days to take them to a police station. You’re breaking the law if you do not show the requested documents within 7 days.

Personal opinion.
But I never get why people have a phone & then in it's case they carry a card or cards. Makes no sense when you can just tap phone & pay.
Cards etc are carried in a wallet in my pocket when required.
Life in the slow lane1 -
Happens quite regularly. Maybe around once a year. I know you can present the licence at a police station, but I have better things to be doing with my time so it's easier just to carry the licence on me.
Road checkpoints are where the police stop drivers to check for things like drink driving. They can also stop you at them for things like if you're flagged for driving while uninsured.

I do this, too - but got a wakeup call recently when my new-ish phone completely died one morning and needed a full replacement of the motherboard (or whatever they call the central unit in a mobile).
Luckily the fault happened when I was at home, but the thought of it happening when I am out and about, on my own, with no means of paying or contacting anyone for assistance hit me like a ton of bricks. I am now always taking a backup with me - sometimes a card or two, sometimes a bit of cash, sometimes a backup phone / tablet, sometimes all of these, depending on how far from home I am venturing. I also use a smartwatch as my increasingly preferred payment method, but like the phone, I won’t rely on it exclusively when further away from home.

I carry my cards in a tightly rolled up plastic bag. That stops them rubbing together and wearing out quickly. If I carry my mobile phone, I keep it well concealed and in "do not disturb" mode in an inside jacket pocket or my rucksack.

Flippin' Eck! I've been driving nearly 50 years and never been stopped at a roadside check. The only time I've had to produce my DL is when I dropped my wife at the train station and British Transport Police were checking who was parking!!
