This thread is about Barclays switch offer which is APP only. I don't recognise your description of problems at all. I opened my account on 12/5, transferred some money in from Santander on 14/5, transferred some money out to Santander on 16/5. I paid £2K in on 18/5, my switch from TSB is complete. I had the Barclays debit card within 5 days, I've already used it to buy goods. Absolutely the easiest, quickest, least hassle, no problem account opening and switch I have ever experienced. All done via the app on my phone. Highly recommended.

Just the small matter of my £200 bonus to wait for.....

My son had an issue which a phone call couldn't solve because they didn't seem to understand the issue. It was because he'd had the app on a previous phone and needed to reset the details but couldn't do it without a PIN which they said they weren't sending to save paper.

It was all sorted in the branch quickly and easily. No good for people without a local branch though, and my son was left wondering why they have call centre staff who don't understand his issue. So he won't be sticking with Barclays because he doesn't want to encounter another issue and not be able to solve it without face to face contact which he finds uncomfortable.

Not sure if other banks are better though, he hasn't needed a call centre for other banks so can't compare.

Same here. No issues at all.

I'll be on the move though when the bonus drops, to whichever bank has a switch offer that i've not used!

With the 2 Direct Debits for this offer, they only need to show up in your donor/switching account and don't need to have been taken, is that correct?

They just mention 'two active Direct Debits', which usually means they've had a payment taken within the last 13 months. For new Direct Debits, I always err on the side of caution and wait for the first payment to be taken before initiating the switch for peace of mind.

Hmm, okay. They've only just appeared in my account today, not sure if they'll take before the 28th. Might be cutting it close.

Could I leave it until the 28th to start the switch do you think, or would that be too late?

    Thinking too much into.

I did the switch, 2 active direct debits but only one of them is used monthly (phone bill)

Did the money in and then took it out a day or so later.

Got the text to confirm I qualified

Looking at the terms they say to complete all of it by the 28th. Each bank considers ‘active’ direct debits differently though, so you could be fine. I hope it works out!

They're already active. Nothing more needs be done regarding the direct debits.

Yes, once you start it on or before the 28th May you're fine. You then have 30 days to complete it.

This is not what the terms say.

Each bank considers ‘active’ direct debits differently though, so you could be fine.

For a while Lloyds had their own definition of an active direct debit, which they have since binned. Banks don't each consider active direct debits differently.

They just mention 'two active Direct Debits', which usually means they've had a payment taken within the last 13 months.

    Again this is incorrect.
