It's very easy to switch bank accounts, the current account switching service takes care of it all for you, so I would say just switch whenever you see something that you prefer.

If you switch to another bank, and decide you don't like it, you can always switch to a different one, or even switch back to Nationwide if you want.

I've been with Nationwide a few months now and can't believe the app doesn't have notifications for payments made and received.

Until recently they didn't show references for payments/transfers, either. And if you pay, or receive money from, someone else's Nationwide account, it doesn't even show their name, just their sort code and account number.

They are unbelievably old fashioned, for some reason they like wasting money on branches instead of updating their systems to be anywhere near remotely modern. I suppose it must work for them at the moment but you have to wonder how long they can live in the past for before people stop using them.

People love Nationwide because they are so old fashioned. They want branches with old fashioned service.

Elderly people might but young people won't, they are quite literally chasing a dieing market.

As a personal choice I wouldn’t open a bank account unless I had access to a branch. As I stated on my thread inviting comments about Santander, my bank - which I have been with fifty years - NatWest have closed their branch and I’m considering opening a Santander account as well for greater flexibility. As I want a branch, I only have the option locally of Lloyds, Santander or Nationwide unless I travel to the next town, but parking is a pain and expensive or catch a bus. Nationwide is I suppose a fall back if pushed, but I’ve been with them in the past and not too bad. Always found the staff very friendly and helpful.
