Mine was dated the 20th of Feb, my billing date is the 1st of the month, so presumably not (Sky's billing system doesn't always make sense to mere mortals though) .

You do have to make sure it's not buried halfway down the email about the Disney+/HBO/Hayu additions. Going off the Sky forums, they're still going out in batches.

I received my email notification of £3 increase yesterday, rang today to inform them I intended to cancel due to price increase, was then told I would be paying the same as I've always paid for the next 12mnths, was then told to check my account which mysteriously now shows (In-Contract discount:-£3.00). Is this Sky being very crafty those that don't complain pay the increase and those that complain get their reason for leaving mid contract removed

So, got my notification of increase on 27th Feb. Yesterday I called Sky to cancel, and switch to Virgin. I have presently Phone, BB 500Mbps, Cinema, Ultimate TV, Sky Q box and a few other bits and bobs.

I am moving to Virgin on their Essential pack, losing the Q box, going over to streaming bt at less than 1/3rd of the price. All going good, accepted by Virgin and an engineer booked for April 9th, the day Sky told me would be the 31 days notice.

I now get an email from Sky telling me that I have to pay nearly £300 early termination fee. OK, I was mid term, but I thought that Ofcom ruled that due to the increases I could cancel without fees? Have I done something wrong here, I have tried to cross the T's and dot the I's?

    Thanks

Did you state that you were leaving due to the price rises? If so then you'll need to call them.

It's hardly crafty or mysterious. You called them and they've discounted the £3 rise, you and the rest of us knew that April rises are baked in to the contracts. If you don't call them, then yes, it will go up.

Did that, spoke to retentions again. Good as gold, said system error (!) and immediately refunded.

    Hi

Just called Sky using the number on the email and pushed to WhatsApp. Minimum term ends in August so thought I might as well try to get a new deal early but nothing offered at all. Will try again later and see if I get a different response. Just for others information there was no mention of possible fees but that might be because they didn't offer a deal.

    Cheers

I have a question regarding the timing of letting sky know you intend to exercise you right to leave without early termination charge, and the date you actually switch to new broadband provider.

I signed up to Sky broadband in early December and am hopefully due cashback and a voucher in the next few weeks. I received my email about the price increase yesterday (10th march)

Could I wait up to 29 days until I tell sky I intend to leave due to price increase ( hopefully during which time I will receive the cashback/voucher), and then place the order with new provider in the days that follow?

  • I’ve used this to cancel SKY Q and some things to note:

The automated system reminds you if you are in a contract and refers to ETC, which is misleading for anyone who might get confused.

The overseas call centre staff are also telling me that we cannot cancel the contract and will pay ETC, experienced this twice this morning, getting cut off the first time whilst being put through to cancellations!

Eventually got put through to retentions in the UK and mentioned the OFCOM ruling and that I was allowed to cancel, and I have dealt with a really helpful woman who agreed right away yes we could cancel.

No decent offers for me to stay, best was £1 off the current increase with a £10 admin charge to agreed a new 2-year contract, not prepared to accept that so noticed given for SKY Q to terminate, still have 15 months left of current contract.

I threatened to cancel mid-contract and it sounded like if I did cancel my discounts would disappear if I changed my mind, so I didn't want to risk this. However they did offer me £2 off my price rise until the end of the contract. It was very hard to understand but she seemed to think there is an upcoming Netflix offer which will discount that element but I have Netflix and Netflix Ultimate upgrade on my Sky account already. I'm wondering if it'll now apply a discount of £5.99 for the basic Netflix off your cost as part of this new bundle?
