Millions of Sky TV, broadband and home phone customers will see prices rise from 1 April, the telecoms giant announced on Wednesday 18 February. If you're a broadband and/or home phone customer, you've got 30 days from being notified to cancel penalty-free. For TV customers, your rights depend on the exact service you have – as we explain below.

If the price rise starts 1/4/26 and by now you haven't received the email does that mean Sky can't bill you extra as its 2/2/26 today which is less than 30 days notice?

My future bill's are showing a rise in April but I don't think I can call them as I haven't got the email yet.

I'm still unclear on this bit.

If i exercise my right to cancel due to the price rises do I still have to give 30 days notice, i.e is the actual cancellation in 30 days time?

or can the cancellation be sooner?

I'm pretty sure you still have to give 31 days notice.
If you read https://www.sky.com/help/articles/changes-to-your-sky-subscription-uk and expand the section headed "If you want to cancel your subscription" then you will see it contains mention of a notice period.

The Sky Q terms and conditions point 14.6 says "In addition to your rights above, you may end a TV subscription service by giving us 31 days’ notice to expire no earlier than when the minimum term for that TV subscription service has ended."

This case is new, as it's about a change within the minimum term, but my assumption is that the 31 days notice period still applies.

If you're talking about the Q & HD TV packages then it's still 31 days notice required. The broadband can just be switched by another supplier as long as you've advised Sky you're leaving due to the price rises.

right perfect, so if i'm moving both broadband and tv to a new supplier, i tell sky I intend to leave due to the price increase, they should note this, this starts the notice period with the tv package, then I arrange my new one to install somewhere near the end of the tv notice period, they will then switch the broadband when they install.

This sound like best practice to avoid double paying for the TV package?

  • USE THE FINE PRINT FOR A CHANGE!!

look in the summary of information ie the fine print you’re emailed regarding your pricing and term.

“Prices may increase during the minimum term, unless you have agreed a fixed price”

Note:”unless you have agreed a fixed price”

this whole sentence is repeated two or three times.

I argued the point of fixed price with Sky mobile, after sky mobile tried to increase my mobile 2gb tariff by 50% after one week, without telling me(ofcom! Thanks Martin)I’d only just renegotiated another year! I was eventually compensated with free of charge, £0.00 per month, for 12 months and 5GB per month. £120.

Did the same with Sky re broadband and tv, I have sky Q. Using the same quote, for my broadband and tv contracts, wording the same, I had all the increases planned for April 1st set aside. Last years basic bill is the same as this years now. £156.

Total: no increase and compensation £276.

It’s clear the advisors don’t know the “unless we have agreed a fixed price” but they can recite the first part ver batim.

This probably will be corrected pretty quickly.
Go read your fine print and look for the sentence, under the price you agreed for the minimum term you agreed.

Perfect timing. Just had my email. I signed up to broadband in December, just had my topcashback payout and prepaid credit card worth about £200 all together. Just phoned to tell them I'm leaving so in effect they will have paid me for 4 months service.

  • Hi, I am mid-contract with a Sky stream and broadband bundle. Due to the significant increase in price which is adding £10 per month to my package, I have opted to cancel. However, I am being told by Sky that I have to pay ETC despite the article on the money saving expert website clearly stating

'If you have Sky Broadband AND Sky TV, and you signed up for them at the same time (in other words, you took out a bundle), Sky told us that you can cancel the whole package penalty-free – even if it includes Stream or Glass. However, if you signed up for each service separately at different times, you may only be able to cancel the broadband penalty-free (not your Stream or Glass plan)'.

I am confused what to do as they want to charge me £220 in ETC and despite advising them of this website, they have stated that even though the stream and broadband was purchased together, they are separate contracts and I can cancel the broadband penalty free but not the stream. What do I do?

  • I had exactly the same thing this morning. I phoned and tried to cancel my sky stream & broadband (both contracts started on the same date) and quoted the article and 3rd March update. I was told they had heard no such update from sky and informed me that I had to pay ETC. Anyone have any advice as to what do now, please?
