when we actually opened the joint account we asked what his score was and we were told it was 79 and that apart from mortgages and huge loans where he would be externally credit checked, he would be accepted for ANY HSBC product he asked for!
Ok, after reading this post I decided to ring up card services to get my limit increased on my HSBC credit card. The lady on the other end of the phone told me that they were going to credit check me - even though my behavioural score is in the 80s. I decided not to go ahead as I've only just had a check done on me for a new car. Plus Next and my gym credit checked me recently - both of which I wasn't expecting.

Don't assume you won't get externally credit checked.
Trying to only spend money when I absolutely have to.
Barclaycard: £4559-1500 = £3059 (Will have £900 to add to that end of September)
    Loan from Friend = £2000

Your gym credit checks you?  Why? I'm with bannatyne's. Who's your gym?
  • Esporta. It's a year's contract.

I would've left it but it's the only gym near me that doesn't allow kids in at all hours.

I don't know if Bannatyne's even credit check. I'm shocked though if they do.
  • It's the only time I've ever actually been aware that a gym has checked me - I've been a member of a few.

Say I were to pay 50 per month to use the gym. Therefore I pay £600 for the priviledge for one year; but the gym gives me a line of credit which I pay back monthly. I think that's how Esporta view it.

It's the same as Bannatyne's i pay £42 per month but i don't think they credit check.
  • Esporta sounds nice. Wish I had one near me.

Sorry to reopen this thread, but I have a question about the scoring system.

I only have a basic bank account with HSBC and an online bonus saver and a flexible saver. Will I have a behaviour score as I want to ask for an upgrade to a current account in the next few months.

You will have a behaviour score with HSBC...all the customers have one with HSBC. Why don't you go in and find out? It is on the screen when they type your account details.
  • Thanks for this - its really interesting.

After being with HSBC for 2 years and being able to upgrade from a basic bank account to now having a current account plus, we have just opened an e-ISA and a Flexible saver and and splitting a lump sum between the two and set up SO to both then I am hoping that this can only up our score further.
