Called HSBC today and asked them about my behaviour score, the guy (UK call centre) sounded surprise and asked me if I am a HSBC employee!

He put me on hold for three minutes and told me that he's not able to disclose the score to me as it is for their internal use only. He then goes on to say that he can tell that my score is "good" and then started happily talking me into taking out a personal loan at "preferential rate". Obviously I declined his offer.

Even though I did not get my behavioural score over the phone but my conversation with the HSBC bloke today has led me to believe that my internal score with them must be "good"! At least 60 I would imagine.

Don't despair when they won't give out your behavioural score!

Wonder what mine is (HSBC)... should be pretty good as I've always kept it in credit, never missed a Direct Debit and have a couple of their other products (savings account, personal loan).

I'm currently in the process of switching to A&L.... without telling them yet so they've had no chance to haggle... I wonder what they'll think of my 'behaviour' then :D

Fantastic thread, I have been with HSBC for over 5 years and my score in that time has been up and down, we have an overdraft(joint account) but one thing I have found is always go into branch for anything, when ever I have applied online I get refused but when I went into branch got accepted for credit card with decent limit, my wife who does not work got everything from loan to credit card and o/draft.

I agree that they do externally check you, they have with us for the last year when we have asked for something, be it unrecorded in branch but recorded online.

    cheers

    My BS is 18!

Got a student account overdrawn (but under the limit) and they want me to pay off 10% of it even though I am still a full time student. So I got annoyed and went into my branch and told the bloke there that I didn't understand a word their phone people were saying Rajistan and was it expected of all HSBC customers to take Hindi lessons when signing up for a current account. He then said don't worry about the 10% we'll work a more reasonable payment plan.

I used to work for HSBC, the local branch staff cannot influence the behaviour score. In 5 years I never did work out exactly how it works simply because it seems to take so much into account.

If I remember correctly the lowest score I ever saw was in the single digits.
  • I was previously told that my BS was 20 and that it needed to be 27 to qualify for an overdraft on my account. I then called back a few months later and asked if it was over 27.. the woman on the phone said she didnt have a clue what i was talking about, but she could however externally credit vet me to see if i could get a credit card.. so i agreed, and failed the test :( So its been a few months, and iv been good with my account, and called up today to ask what my score was again... the advisor told me he couldnt let me know.. i explained that i had previously been told it needs to be 27 to get an overdraft, so the advisor put me on hold to speak to his manager... after a short pause i got told that he couldnt tell me my score, but said i did meet the requirements for an overdraft (presumably over 27) ..so i agreed, to then get told i would now have an EXTERNAL credit vet to determine the amount. I refussed to proceed with the application. I might also add that i have been informed of my score everytime i have been into a branch, without even asking. Yet only once been told over the phone. Hope this helps all!

Indeed I think when its over the phone they do is for security purposes and therefore don't tell you. If it happened someone found out your account information and wanted a internal rating to see what they could get out of you it could be dangerous.

Obviously this is a lot harder to do when you are sitting down with someone at a desk!

So there is really no point to behavioural scoring!! If your behaviour score says you are "eligible" for a loan, you are still credit scored externally. If your behaviour score does not indicate you're "eligible" for a loan, you're credit scored externally.

I think the bank do it to see how vunerable you are to them.

Way 1: Be very good with HSBC, pay off all credit cards, have an awesome score with them. But with other banks you aren't paying off CCs etc. therefore your actual credit score is very low.

Way 2: Be very bad with HSBC, not paying things off, h owever you have 5 other CCs which you pay off every month, therefore giving you a resonble credit rating overall. Yet you are trying to get more out of HSBC even though you don't pay money off with them.

can you explain what you mean? I don't get this.

Ha. I think its just a way of diversifying their risk from just the general credit score.
