Home Delivery Network fails delivery

I went to the Cardiff HDN depot to collect my Amazon parcel yesterday morning (saturday), but they said it had been already loaded onto a van and was out for delivery.
My house was occupied all day (wife was in when I went to the depot) but at 6pm I noticed that they had put a card through my door, saying attempted delivery! Looking at the tracking on Amazon it says a delivery was attempted at 4.15pm, which is complete nonsense, as we waited in all day and were in at that time. The delivery driver didn't knock on the door/ring the doorbell, just put the card through the door and legged it. What's the point of that? HDN are the worst of the the worst.
if you havent contacted amazon to advise, then i would if i was you, you never know, the more complaints they get from customers, and customers saying they are seriously debating purchasing items else where, they may come down harder on hdnl or even use an alternative delivery agentMFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -

if it is hdn, ask the retailer for the tracking number that hdn give them, then you can go on hdn's site and put the number in https://www.hdnl.co.uk/hdnl/MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -
I used to work as an independent courier delivering for HDNL
Firstly most of their couriers get paid per delivery so they have every incentive to deliver your parcel. If they take it back they wont get paid so all those people who claim HDNL drivers just throw in cards into their houses are mistaken.Sometimes some people's doorbells wont be working or maybe too much noise in the house. If a HDNL driver knocks and does not hear any response he wont wait for you the whole day,he will leave the card. You will be surprised at the number of people who take forever to open their doors or some whom you actually see in the houses but choose to ignore knocks.
I understand when people talk about HDNL leaving the parcels in the porch & back garden. In some areas everyone works 9-5 and normally if you cant deliver at a house or next door some drivers will try to leave in a safe place where they think you can get it.They however usually leave their cards telling you where they left the parcel and throw the cards into your post box.Only problem is their cards are not familiar with many people,I remember I used to throw away mine thinking that was junk mail before I worked as a courier.
If you have an address that is difficult to find e.g some streets you might have say a number 21 and say 23 isnt easy to locate. It is in your best interests to give extra instructions on how to get to your house.Believe me some houses are very difficult to find and since drivers have a lot to deliver they wont wait around the whole day looking for it.
Some people are not really liked by neighbours and so many times I had a response from neighbours like 'I cant stand the neighbour so please I dont want their parcel etc.Whatever it is just know the couriers would rather deliver the parcel so they get paid and not have to take it back.Taking it back means they have to rescan it back at the depot and these guys work long hours which will only increase the hours.0 -

all this is true of most couriers - its frustrating trying to deliver a parcel when the recipient and their neighbours are never in when you call and theres no where safe to leave it!
even worse is flats where you cant gain access and theres no letterbox:mad:0 -
I notice you state people are not quick to open the door. What about those of us who physically cannot run to answer the door due to disability.
I have many a time had a delivery guy at the door who has knocked and left as soon as he has finished knocking, also had it where as soon as I have opened the door they are just getting back in their vehicle and drive off whilst looking at you.Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted
I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p

I was shocked to see how many complaints there are about Home Delivery Network. So I am not alone then! I cannot stand incompetence and their lies anymore. They have had an Amazon package for me since 26 August. They claim to have attempted a delivery on 27 August. Funny, because I was there all day, as were my neighbors. HDN did not come anywhere near my home that day.
After many expensive phone calls (10 pence a minute) to them, I was assured every time that it would be delivered the next day. Guess what? Never happened!
I am going to attempt to get Amazon to drop them as couriers as they are not helping their reputation for customer service. There is sufficient evidence on this forum alone that they, and their drivers, are incompetent, and worse, liars.0
