There's no alternative ID verification method.
Putting aside any fundamental issues with your OH's profile (not on electoral register for eg) then these problems are often as you say just down to the actual taking of the photo/selfie.
Common issue with passport/DL is reflections from their shiny surfaces - can be difficult get decent illumination without obscuring the details. Sticking the thing on a black background will help the camera, as will trying to illuminate with natural light.
Don't be tempted to use any of the phone's clever photo "enhancing" tricks, these are often detected by the ID verifiers as tampering which will bounce the application.

BUCKS BS RSO2 withdrawals
Having opened with the required £10 deposit there seems no way to make a withdrawal (to £1) terms:
On account details when logged in it does state minimum balance £10; however cannot find this in the Ts&Cs?

Buckinghamshire RS
They say the minimum initial investment is £10 and if the balance falls to zero the account will be closed, implying a minimum balance of £1 (actually a penny but usually the minimum for BS’ is £1). You’ll need to contact them.

Chase RS
There is now some doubt as to whether interest is actually credited monthly or Chase is just showing accrued interest. See forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/82152391/#Comment_82152391 and trailing discussion.

I don’t know about the regular saver, but I’ve been having issues with Melton easy access saver account numbers with my bank, NatWest. Bank says it doesn’t recognise them and Melton says they’re ok?

If I remember correctly, you have to send them a bank statement of your nominated account if you haven’t already done so.

Just managed to close my Melton account online, went through the account itself then closed it.

Thanks. I think that may have worked for me this time. I still got the initial error message, but then that was followed by a pop-up that the account was closed successfully, so who knows. Nothing has changed when I view the account afterwards.

It was a year ago that Melton said their online system would be offline for a while to upgrade to their new platform - seems that new platform hasn't worked out so well by the looks of things.
They still don't seem to have any regular savers available a year on, if you click on regular savers on their website you get:
"Important update: No savings products available in this range
We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience during this time.
Our team is working hard behind the scenes, and we look forward to introducing our new range of savings products very soon.
Thank you for your continued support."
A year! Happy Birthday platform update.

Messaged them and now a “transfer” button has appeared. However it only allows £100-£50k by FP to nominated account. 🤨
