I was definitely asked as a new customer but can't recall at what point in the process. Wasn't asked as an existing customer.

While you are a new customer now, have you had any dealings with them in the past from which they might still have a nominated account on file for you? For example there was a 6.something fixed £250 per month RS that a lot of us had in 2023, but many closed on maturity as they did not make it easy and inexpensive to retain membership (doing nothing on maturity was the most cost effective way, but that then meant having to message them to ask for the remainder of the balance as payments could not be scheduled via the app.)

Albeit that the Halifax RS now pays 5% AER.
