I don't think any of the posts are patronising. If it's not worth £60, don't expend the effort. Simples.

I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?

I find there are times where I think 'this is a pain' but it IS worth it when the 12 months or whatever are up.

If you can make thousands with regular savers they more than pay for themselves without doubt.

Strangely, I've had to spend time on phone calls and secure messaging sorting out issues with my ISA transfers this year and naturally, making sure the ISA pot was filled to the max before tax year end. I find RS help with funds for filling my ISA and topping up my SIPP before the saving cycle begins again on the 6th of April😉🤗😂. All in all, as we all know from experience, saving will take up personal time, especially keeping abreast of the best offers available for the savings vehicle needed, which can mean checking interest rates on a daily basis.

For me, I get pleasure from moving money around and making things balance, the only part which is a pain is doing annoying ID checks where you have to put your face in the frame and turn slowly to each side etc. etc. etc. Always takes me multiple attempts to get it right.

While I'm here, another First Direct question…. regular saver matures tomorrow, already disappeared from the app so I've been able to apply for a new one. It says the account will open "within the next few days" and the first standing order payment will be taken. I hate having money sitting around in current accounts for longer than is necessary, so do you get any notification that the account is set up and that the first payment will be taken?

(Yes, I know it's only worth a few pence a day in interest, so will probably just bung £300 in the current account now. Other people may be interested in the answer though!)

Would First Direct allow you to have an overdraft facility on the first [current] account, be useful just in case you get the timing wrong?

    Good morning!

With regard to First Direct regular saver -

On two occasions now I've accidentally paid £300 from our joint account to my own FD account in readiness for the SO the day before, only for my husband to have a text from them the following morning saying his account has gone into overdraft (spot the obvious mistake Mrs Cricket!) and can he pay money in by the end of the day to avoid a charge. Both times he hasn't been charged as I've simply moved the cash immediately to the correct First Direct account (and the text comes quite early on so money in situ by 9.30am latest).

This only MY experience though and only for information, Mr Cricket's regular saver matures on Saturday so I might be inclined to leave £300 in for his next one, I seem to remember reading their charges can be quite hefty if you do go into overdraft so 🤷‍♀️

    Hope this helps xx

ClaireC666 I've never known FD to let me know when the account is open, I've always had to check it regularly to see when the first standing order has gone - thank you for what you said about opening your new one, I didn't realise we could do that! xxxxx

@clairec666 I do believe the First Direct app gives you a push notification when they move the first installment into the RS

You're absolutely right. I opened 6 regular savers with them and always received notification when the interests had been moved to my account and the new one had been opened and I always made sure that the first deposit was available on my current account

    First Direct

I leave my current account permanently £250 overdrawn (the fee/interest free amount allowed) and always get a push notification reminding me to pay money in otherwise payment returned. If that happens you are unable to make a payment into the Regular Saver that month but they will add it on to the next months if you request it.
