    Gosh, lots of uses

Keeps the childrens pens in them
    Cat, dog biscuits/treats
    Chocolate biscuits
(a funny one) keep odd socks in one under the bed so that if their little friends ever turn up from their hiding places I can pair them back up again
    Bird Seeds

Is it only this years Celebrations tubs that are microwave and freezer safe?

I was thinking the same thing. I wondered if I could grow anything in them this summer... eg. lettuce leaves or something !

You can grow stuff in anything that you can bash a few holes in the bottom of. Last year I had allsorts growing in baby formula tins as we were getting through 1 every 6 days for my DD before she was weaned and I was loath to just put then in the recycling. All I did was take a big nail and a hammer and put a few holes in the bottom of the empty tin.

You can get special paint (or primer) that will go straight onto metal and paint them up if you like - they'd make lovely pressies painted and planted up or even painted up filled with compost and wrapped with a pack of seeds for someone to plant up themselves later in the new year.

Actually going with the painting up theme you could use them then as the container for small hamper type pressies.

Yes, strange when they probably all come form the same factory.

Thanks for all the ideas, keep them coming:)

Loving the "power cut kit". Every house needs one of them.

We had quite a stockpile here at work- I freecycled the lot in one batch by reminding people how useful they'd be for transporting all those cakes parents are asked to provide for various Christmas fayres, bazaars etc- they went no problem!

Kids' stuff: art stuff like pens/pencils/crayons. Also good for kids' projects, e.g. you could store all the bits and bobs from a puppet-sewing kit or a badge-making kit.

First aid kit - band-aids, wipes, tweezers, etc.

Use one or two in a drawer to make compartments for small items like socks and so on.

A "mini-office": a pair of scissors, a stapler, pens, a few envelopes, stamps. Easy to move to different rooms, or further - I used one to keep all my xmas cards etc in once year and wrote a few each day when I did the school pick-up.

In the car: a couple of those instant-warmer things that you break to release heat for hands, an extra pair of gloves, a torch, a phone-charger, a few chocolate biscuits or similar, extra batteries (remember they'll drain fast in cold weather - I keep a battery-charger in the car too). Maybe a couple of painkillers. List of emergency numbers.

For camping: keep one filled with a box of matches, teabags, small container of powdered milk, a few chocolate biscuits - very handy for quick refreshments on arrival before putting up the tent.

In the car: colouring pencils and bits of paper, a couple of packs of playing-cards and a small book of card-games.

If you have a baby: a small changing-pack: a couple of nappies, a packet of wipes and a plastic bag or two (you could keep one in the car too).

I also have a few knitter-y uses for them:

Little leftover bits of yarn - small balls and scraps

Individual small projects: gloves, hats, etc - keeps the needles, yarn and any other bits together, separate from other projects, and they're easily transportable from room to room (or even in the car).

...and the circular ones are perfect for storing circular needles.

As well as most of the above I store unworn tights in one I bought several pairs at the beginning of winter so I always have some and don't have to buy in a hurry.

Our local Charity shops also welcome them!

All the above - and I also use them to keep dry stores - flour, lentils etc - the odds and ends and extras that don't fit in my big storage jars - safe from any mice that might find their way into my food cupboards!

I have one for pastry cutters, another for sellotape, drawing pins, paper clips etc one for first aid stuff plasters etc. The rest I use for storing/transporting cakes and biscuits in.

  • I store all my herb & spice jars in mine

Never let success go to your head, never let failure go to your heart.
  • I only have a single drawer in our kitchen which I use for cutlery, so I use tins for all the other bits and pieces (e.g. measuring spoons) to keep them neat and together.

One I got last year is safe. It's printed on the lid. :)
