This is not original but seen on another thread.

Use one of the tins to put all of your receipts in - with or without grocery. Every January empty them into an envelope marked January 200? and keep it for 2 years. If you haven't needed to open it - junk it.

I haven't read through all the replies so apologies if I repeat anything, but I use a few for cookie cutters and my daughters cooking stuff, also one for food colourings/flavourings that kind of thing.
I do have a collection waiting to be used but if I dont' I'll probably freecycle them.

I have altered some of them and made gift tins for presents, bit like a hamper only used the tin instead of a basket. I've made a baby one and a girlie one for a friend so far. They loved them, thankfully.
I'll edit this later if I find somewhere to upload a picture.

I use mine for storing opened packets of dried fruits..sultanas, currants, raisins etc. They seem to squash in nicely and keep fairly fresh.

We had one kicking about on the shelf at work all year. My work mate bought a 1kg 'refill bag' from Sainsbury's before Christmas and we started again. I don't know how much it was but probably more environmentally friendly than a new tin. (If this catches on we'll all be regreting not saving our tins in a few years time)

I use mine for seeds, cakes and a sealed up one contains important documents and photos which couldn't be replaced in case of fire (bit close to my heart that) And several trustworthy people know where it is hidden.
Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me

I have quite a few. Two hold all my surplus pencils, biros, yellow post-it notes, highlighters, sellotape etc - all stuff I use as I work from home and have lots of paperwork to do.

Two others I keep to store all the kitchen bits and pieces. Dry bread to use in soups and casseroles, half packets of pasta spirals and quills, polenta and stuff like that, as I have a small kitchen and very limited cupboard space.

Another holds all my microfibre cloths, scourers etc. Yet another all my sunglasses etc.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

here are the pictures of the gift basket type thing I made last year ... only part I wasn't happy with was the red rim under the lid. I didnt' have enough time to figure out what to do with it, so had to leave it. Fine if the lid is kept on, but looks a bit naff with the lid off! :rotfl:

    This is it opened up...
