I keep them for when I send visitors home with cakes etc. If I send my 'best' tins or tupperware I never see it again!

I've done that too, when the kids have had parties at school and they needed to take items of food in, sandwiches, cakes etc, I've sent them in an old biscuit or sweet tin with their names on.. sometimes they came back, other times they didn't.

Wow some great ideas there

Could I ask though what you all use to cut a slot in the lid with? And how do you make sure it's not gonna cut you every time you put a coin in? (sorry to be thick! :D )

Also, where do you get the patterned sticky back plastic stuff from?

Our local diy shop sells some patterned sticky back plastic, think it's also known as or was knows as fablon? Might be wrong, but rings a bell for some reason.
Probably big DIY shops will sell it too, B&Q and those type. My dad got some once to cover his kitchen cupboard doors as a temporary make over! :rotfl:
craft shops should also sell the holographic type or plain ones, but will possibly be more expensive, unless you're lucky enough to see any in a poundland?

    ?

I would just use a craft knife or a sharp kitchen knife, then turn on the reverse and with a light hammer make sure the sharp bits are hammered down to the underside.

  • Some great ideas here! I took two home from work (non-choccie eater myself) but I can't stand to see things being thrown out!

That's me got a new Quality Street sewing tin and a Roses sealed pot then (not to mention a little bit of space in the hall where they've been sat while I work out what to do with them!).
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

Thanks Rosieben for reminding me of my Mums button tin.

Anyone know if you could paint them?

I painted a round biscuit tin some years back (I was on income support at the time with two small kids so it was a 'home made' christmas'.
I used the enamel paint -like you can buy for air fix kits but this was in a bigger pot. I painted the whole tin bright red and cut out a picture of father christmas to stick on the top. Being the worlds worst cook I bought some cheap 'homemade' biscuits from the local WI stall.......really cheap.......and there was a present all finished.
Can't remember how much the paint cost way back then but I know there was plenty left over and I painted up some enamel jugs from my grans to hang in the kitchen.
