This is not your thread. Please do not turn this into something about you.

re patronising the OP. I don't think anyone has done that, all that has been posted is encouragement and a bit of TLC. God knows from what the LM has posted she's had very little of that lately and maybe just maybe strangers on a message board taking the time to help and advise might be the very thing she needs to enable her to get IRL help.
LM I have the feeling you don't feel as though you have been patronised, but jic I am wrong I want to apologise.0 -
Whilst I agree with you in principle when it comes to the *harsh approach* I think maybe an assement of the siuation is in order first dont you think?
With me, yes, take the harsh approach but its hardly appropriate for someone with MH issues!!
I did assess the situation, far more in fact than most on here, I came to a conlusion and posted accordingly.
Unless you are medically qualified in such matters, which I somehow doubt, then my approach is as valid as yours.
Patronising someone, as many posters on this thread have, is in my opinion never going to bring any real long term help to the OP, it is both insulting and degrading to the individual IMO.0 -

I'm so sorry to hear of your problems LM. I hope the interview thing will be sorted out soon and that your fiancee will be able to come back. Ask you GP for a telephone consultation or a home visit and speak to him/her about Menatl Health outreach programs in your area.
Some of the posts on this thread are a disgrace to MSE and should be deleted. Regardless of some of your feelings towards the OP would you not be better to just ignore the thread than take the risk of causing a deterioration in her mental health? Shame on those of you who brought this thread down. :mad:0 -

it's not easy trying to deal with benefits if you can't follow their (DWP) rules - they seem incapable of realising that not everyone can get to appointments, write letters etc.,
Phone your GP and the CAB and explain what the problems are - many areas have advocates to help those with disabilities dealing with all the agencies to make sure that they are getting the right help with benefits etc.,

I'm quite appalled at some of the comments that have been made to LM on this thread and it just goes to show that there is still a major lack of understanding and compassion of people with MH illness, which can actually make the fears and anxiety even worse when you feel you are being judged and called a liar.
One of the biggest fears someone with BPD can have is of being harshly criticised and rejected and they try to do everything in their power to please everyone around them and can get quite distressed if they have to let people down for any reason.
Take for example LM's dilemma in missing her appt and being unable to call them to let them know why ... She would originally have had every intention of attending the appt despite the fact she knows she has agoraphobia as when you're having a good day you honestly believe you can do it, and there are times when you possibly can. But, as the appt approaches the anxiety builds up and you're suddenly faced with a panic that you might not be able to make it after all.
The anxiety can get so bad that it leaves you barely able to function and the thought of then having to make a phone call or contact someone to let them know you can't make it, which basically means you are letting someone down and that is something a person with BPD finds really difficult to cope with as they then expect to be punished in some way for it, you can start to see how the situation can rapidly snowball out of control and leave a person in the situation LM now faces.
I hope having a little insight into how these situations can arise might make some people a little more compassionate and understanding. Living with illnesses such as these can be worse than hell on earth at times, but no one ever believes you because they can't see anything physically wrong with you.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Excellent post Chameleon and perhaps one day we will live in a world where prejudice and condemnation of mental illness will be a thing of the past.

Well I am ashamed of how I acted here - as more and more information came to light about the OP, i saw that she is someone who needs a whole lotta hugs and sympathy. I still believe, and always will do, that people need to help themselves - as much as they are able to.
I will certainly think twice before pouncing on anyone again.
