Well I am ashamed of how I acted here - as more and more information came to light about the OP, i saw that she is someone who needs a whole lotta hugs and sympathy. I still believe, and always will do, that people need to help themselves - as much as they are able to.

I will certainly think twice before pouncing on anyone again.

    LM,

I'm ok, doing as well as I can. The doctor is coming to visit me tomorrow. Someone who I haven't seen in months (an old friend) phoned them up for me. I was talking to her on MSN about things and she said that she would come around and let herself in and phone the doctor for me. She still has a key from about a year ago when she helped decorate the flat. It made me jump and panic when she came though and it took a while to calm myself down but in a way, it was nice seeing someone.
My friend said the doctor was very nice and that she was willing to give up her lunch break to come and make sure I'm ok and discuss things. My friend said that the doctor also said that she knows I'm not capable of working (she read my notes) and that she is willing to go through my IB appeal with me and write a covering letter.

Now the next step is being able to answer the door.

Chameleon, thank you for your insight. What you described is exactly how I feel and most of the time I feel stupid for feeling like it. :(

Good to hear from you LM, have been thinking about you.

I know what a big step it will be answering the door tomorrow, and you're right, Chameleon's description of what you are going through is spot on. Lots of deep breaths, and maybe make your way towards the door slowly. If the doctor is due at 1pm, maybe start making your way towards the door at 12.50pm. Take a few steps, then have a break, slow your breathing. Just take it ever so slowly. You can do it.

Let us know how you get on ... I should be around until midday if you need anything before then x

    Hi LM,

Dmg is right, you can do it. :) Just take it slowly and it might help if you think of it as it being a visitor who really understands how difficult it is for you and won't be phased at all by how anxious you may appear to her. Plus, it might reassure you to think of letting the GP in as being the first step in getting the help and support that you deserve and need.

I'll think of you later on today and send you positive thoughts. :) Let us know how you got on!

Your GP must be with you right now. I hope you managed to find the strength to answer the door and let her in. Thinking of you and praying you get some much needed help from her xxx

The GP appointment went well. She understood how apprehensive I was and I did what dmg24 suggested about opening the door and it worked. :)

She made me weigh myself on the home scales which was embarrassing, and she said my BMI is 16.2 and that my weight isn't too good. I spoke to her about my agoraphobia and she said that she understands that I find things difficult. She asked me some personal questions too, which I don't really want to go into. No offence to anyone. :)

She went through my Incapacity Benefit with me and is writing a cover letter to go with the appeal to say that I cannot work due to my mental health and that the reason I missed the medical interview was because of my agoraphobia.

She also wrote in the letter what difficulties I have.

She said she's going to refer me back to Park House (the local mental health centre) to get reassessed and then I'll be given either a psychiatrist/CPN/Occupational Therapist (she's not sure which yet) according to my needs. :)

I was so embarrassed when I started crying though. :( Things just get to me and sometimes talking about them has me in floods of tears.

She's going to see me next week and said to try and make it to the GP surgery but if I struggle too much, she'll arrange a home visit again. :)

It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. :)

Thank you everyone for your support. :)

    xx
