    Calm down people!!!!!!!!

I'm not about to take any sides here but I can see a point of view from both sides.

No, this is not a dedicated MH forum, thankfully! - and I say that because I find that often they can become all too self-indulgent and cause more harm than good to some people - but it is a forum where EVERYONE is welcome to post and ask for advice or support no matter what their background.

We do often have very vulnerable people posting here for all manner of reasons so it would be helpful if people could think twice sometimes before hitting the "send button" if they think their comments might hurt someone else.

  • i have been following this thread since it began and would now like to post my thoughts. I am someone with severe & long term mental health issues (Bipolar)
I actually agree that we shouldn't wrap people in cotton wool - it helps nobody least the person with MH issues. We still need to live in this world and to do this we need to find a way round things we find hard ( like going to the postbox) It is no good us saying we just can' do things - it's dis empowers us and feeds into the 'I have a MH issue so can't do things" stuff.
What we do need is a constructive kick up the b*m every so often to get us going :) So in short it isn't so much what is said, but the way it is said. If I hadn't been pushed I could now be an inpatient all the time instead of living in the community with support,
This has nothing to do with the OP, but the stuff I am picking up about the way people have responded. It's not good to molly coddle any one with any illness, what is needed is constructive support so they can reach their full potential whatever that maybe.

  • I've just read through all of this thread and I really don't know what to make of it. I have severe bipolar disorder (severe depression / mania / psychosis / agoraphobia / panic attacks / eating problems), my husband is extremely unwell because of chronic liver failure and mobility disorder and I have a 4yr old daughter to look after. (I'm only 25) I am finding it extremely difficult to cope, despite the help from a professional mental health team, but life goes on and I have NO choice but to go out into the world or we'd have no food or my child wouldn't go to nursery. I have the upmost sympathy for LM, I honestly do because I can relate to her problems, but when it comes to the crunch, you need to take away that cotton wool and face reality. You can't sit inside all day love. Believe me, I did that for a year and it really does no good. I hope you get all the support you need from your GP referral and best wishes with the appeal.

What a lovely thought to post, LadyM has been in my thoughts too. She has not posted since the 9th. I hope everything is ok x
    Gone ... or have I?
  • It'd be lovely to hear that everything is ok, LadyM pops into my thoughts every now and then.

LadyM, if you're reading - just a quick hello to let us know you're ok?

Yes, I've been thinking of her also and wondering how she's coping. It's a little worrying that she hasn't been back online since her last post and I just hope the unpleasantness earlier on in the thread hasn't deterred her from posting here again :(

LadyM, if you read this can you let one of us know you are ok, even if just via PM please? Hope you're ok :kisses3:
