OH would be horrified to think of taking CDs out of their "jewel" boxes and putting them in envelopes. As for putting them in a database I think you'd get a blank look. He (as the vast majority are his) had about 900 CDs, mostly classical, in date order by when the composer born so you need to know your composers to know where to look. Things are a bit random within each composer's area but where there are mutliple packs for one piece (as with Wagner's Ring Cycle) all the pack must be kept together. Especially necessary given how many different copies of the Ring Cycle he has (6? 7?). And then there's the jazz, folk and ska and Brie section (though I've got a nice selection in my car). And then there's the vinyl, at least 200?daisy_1571 said:
Sounds very similar to my spreadsheet so I can find instrumental, country, metal, comedy songs, xmas, audio book, half hour radio show - it all depends what I'm in the mood for and now I can easily find it like you, im enjoying the accessibility. I have similar list for my dvds, musical, black n white, comedy, series etc etc.dND said:
Thanks Daisy, but that wouldn't work for me. I would find all the envelopes depressing; I find that the illustrations on the cases are what trigger the memories of the music/film. I guess I have a very tactile and visual memory - words on a page do very little for me.daisy_1571 said:Dnd I took all my cds and dvds out the folders and keep them now in paper envelopes, takes up so much less space. I write a number on the envelope, log them in a spreadsheet so I can easily find what I'm looking for. Through logging them I found i had some duplicates i wasnt aware of. The envelope system also saves the whole reshuffling everything down a shelf when buying a new cd and it doesn't fit beside its alphabetical mates or genre mates depending how you store your cds.

I do have the DVDs on a database for quick checking and to enable me to have them in alphabetical order and have a database for World/Folk/Popular CDs with a single artiste. I started a database for the classical CDs but it became rather complicated as one CD might contain multiple composers with multiple pieces of music.
For the classical CDs I pick out the single composer ones and have those alphabetically, the rest are batched in themes such as guitar music/medieval music/Christmas music etc., etc.. I think I counted over 1200 CDs when I packed them. 🤣
I've really enjoyed getting them accessible again and being able to start listening to them again. 😁 Dxx
Unlike you I find the envelopes efficient therefore pleasing, but I totally understand how they wouldn't sit well with you. As my grandma used to say, wouldn't do if we were all the same, everyone would have wanted to marry your granda!

We got rid of a lot of DVDs a few years back when we consolidated our collection with the outlaw's, so many duplicates. Which reminds me we never got round to watching Rare Exports this Christmas, must ask him about getting that one out as it's such good fun.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. @Brie your post made me smile. I like that sort of individuality. Of no interest to you with your super collection but. …We got rid of the majority of our CDs and DVDs. We tried selling them to music magpie. Anything worth over 50 pence i looked up on eBay and sold individually. The rest either went to musiccmagpie or we gave away on freecycle. Its a really easy way to check whether they are worth selling individually. The ones music magpie offered 50 pence or more normally sell for about £5. We kept about 10 cds and possibly 2 dvds each.We have lots of spare bedrooms so I have started getting them back into shape after decorating one of them. Trying to be more ruthless with stuff we don’t need.19

I got rid of a huge bag of DVD's a few months ago. Gave them to a guy who lives near me with no internet so just a DVD player and not many DVD's.
Of course about a month after I gave the away my Mum asked if I had any DVD's as she wanted to stock back up - typical.
Been another very busy day today with work and hardly had a minute.
Between meetings earlier I;
Kitchen - done the dishes, moved some of the dog stuff around to make more room for tins of food
Washings - Folded and put away some, another load in the machine
Hall cupboard - Everything out and rearranged so I can put my Christmas tree on the top shelf. Now have room for the hoover, mop, brush and clothes horses in there
I'll be stuck to this laptop for another couple of hours so back to it!Debt Free - 4th June 202520 -
Good grief brie, thats an.....unusual way to file them 😆 🤣 whatever works i suppose 😆 🤣
I like the physical items so I'm keeping mine. I've got about 500 dvds and same in cds. Only enough vinyl that would fit in one metal record storage box. Mr d only keeps his cds on a couple of ipod things so I think his actual cds are up in the attic.

I have lots of CDs and a few DVDS kept but no method of playing either (taken by ex). They are in the loft. I think first stop is to clear the house though

4 items donated and most excitingly one sold for £34 on bay of eMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!21 -
Good afternoon chums , well a good day today, I decided to be on the safe side, and stayed in the warm on Monday istead of going to play Crib and fingers crossed my sniffles seem to have gone I went to Stitch and B**tch this morning and decluttered a bag of paperbacks to the Coop charity book shelf then half a large bag of toy stuffing to one of my fellow knitters as she makes toys to be sold at the local hospice in Newport. We have our meeting in the Coop cafe so I can park underneath it and shop after our meeting.
I had checked on line and thought I would buy some of my favourite LU butter biscuits as according to the Trolley App they were on offer at £1.25, turns out only online, and in the shop they were £1.75 but I shall wait as sometime Sainsburys do a good offer on them, and I stock up.
They are usually the 'treat' biscuits I buy, as they are rather moreish with a cuppa
I used to stock up on them when I went to my brothers place in France but now sadly he has passed so no longer likely to go there again.
As I had an abandoned trolley, and thought well I'll nip to £land for a mosey, so returned the trolley, and when I put it back lo and behold I pushed the chain into the slot and a pound came out
so nipped into £land and bought a packet of Lotus biscoff biscuits, plus a box of tissues total cost two pounds so my shop at lunchtime only cost me a quid and I've got a box of tissues and a packet of biscuits as well, I call it a win-win .
I find it so odd that people just abandon their trolleys just about anywhere, as I have always returned mine even if I've used a token, but then my DD says I am a tidy person
Which is true I suppose and just dumping a trolley seems so messy, when it was only about 5 foot from the trolley parking bit But hey ho I gained a quid at least
Came home and did a bit more of the killer jigsaw, not a lot but, I'm not giving up on it.
Right the kettle is calling me so its a cuppa with a couple of biscuits. Spaghetti Bolagnese tonight for dinner, DD make a lovely one and I'm looking forward to it
Heavy rain due tomorrow
I think we shall be growing flippers at this rate
Keep warm ,safe and dry chums it will soon be spring ,fingers crossed

I’ve started going back to CDs recently and to assist me in this I have anew CD player. It’s part of my aim for less screen time. I’ve kept my ancient iPod touch which currently houses my old CD collection and I use that whennim
out and about but I’m thinking of rebuying some of the CDs on there.@London_1 Music Magpie and World of Books (WoB) are the two main buying sites. WoB’s buying arm used to be called Ziffit but they’ve merged their branding now. They all buy books/cds/computer games/dvds. You don’t make a fortune but you do make some pennies and get them out of the house. I’ve normally got a box on the go for them.✒️ Declutter 2025 🏅👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

I have 2 boxes, labelled as its easy to forget which box you are throwing it into, bar code into each mm and wob (if you don't care to download their app so you can use the camera on your phone to scan - type into one, highlight, copy it (ctrl and c on your keypad or use your mouse if on a computer) ctrl and v or paste it into the other one - saves typing it twice as after a while numbers start to lose their meaning lol), if they both want them obv go with the higher (and delete it out the other one). Never a fortune but you know they will be sold on to someone who wants them. Print a label and a lovely person in a van comes and carries it away. Money in your bank account with a week or two.
