A Very MSE Advent 2025

Welcome old and new faces to A Very MSE Advent 🎄
Our advent runs from the 1st December to the 24th
I originally set this diary up because while pleased for my friends, I was envious of their fancy advent calendars and wanted to appreciate what I did have- and save a few quid!
Your advent can be anything you like, such as one or a mix of-
Wearing a piece of jewellery or item of clothing you don't often wear
Doing something Christmassy to make the most of the season; a seasonal film or book or jigsaw, mince pie or Baileys, etc
Doing a job you've been putting off or that you don't really want to do (also known as OATs- Outstanding Annoying Tasks)- especially useful for getting Christmas jobs done
Using up toiletries you want out the way or have been waiting to treat yourself with
Utilising something in your home you've been 'saving for best' or never bother enjoying
The only rules are we (at least really try to) do something every day, and we make the most of the things we already have
(including skills and determination!)
If along the way we find things that can be decluttered, sold, or regifted that's an mse bonus, but the real point is to embrace the true spirit of Christmas by being open to gratitude and joy for what is around us (and frankly ludicrous earrings).
I hope you'll join me in A Very MSE Advent 2025 🥂✨️

Love this idea! I'll try and do something each day

I'll have a go! I have instantly thought of a number of projects to complete (or start!) some garments that need an outing, and one OAT to tackle. Plus I like to make a decoration each year for each of the wider family's trees - that's our own, 4 out of 5 of our adult offspring (one is still with us) and my 99 y.o. mother in her care home. 6 in total, two made so far. Last year they all got little fans, made from colourful card & offcuts of lace, the year before it was little "tomte" gnomes made from two shrunken wool jumpers, some fluff & old leather buttons. This year I'm weaving tiny baskets from raffia and split-down packing tape. Keeps me happy! And the grandkids seem to love them too.Angie - GC Dec 25 £186.64/£500: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 40/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)10

I'm in!
I've had a little practice already this week - I wore big silver hoops, that my sister bought me last year, for absolutely no reason on Thursday, and on Friday I wore my new favourite second hand jeans to work, even though I see them as weekend jeans and not really smart enough for work. I love them and I wore them, that's all there is to it.
I'm hoping I'll do a good mix of things through December.Debts 04/01/25 01/12/25

I’m in. One thing every day for advent. I love thisMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!8 -
I'm in too! I've already started sorting any jewellery I've found around the house into a set of little ceramic drawers ready to open one a day. I'll have to top up after a few days as there are only 16 drawers - and they're not all full yet!
Hope I find my Christmas earrings before we get closer 😂
I'm also going to aim to do a christmassy prep thing at the very least every weekend day (Fri, Sat, Sun for me) - making no promises for work days but I will continue with the jewellery!9
