Oh what a wicked heat Siju, I saw yours on the news yesterday, another in Cornwall too, plus our precious New Forest too! It picked up again today after being under control last night. Those poor firemen must be exhausted even though they have back up from other counties, poor chaps. So many diversions my old school friend told us. It'll take a good while for them all to recover, but recover they will, we need plenty of rain now, I think we'll get it in the winter too due to the La Nino effect which starts in the southern hemisphere. Have a truly amazing holiday! We'll be thinking of you. Excellent potting.

So sorry to have been MIA, but…

T & I were off on our mini break the Sunday before last, sadly that didn't happen. We got some way past Exeter, then T's left hand slipped off the steering wheel on his knee, tried it again, but the same thing happened. Luckily there was a layby on the dual carriage (thank goodness) way so he pulled in, and his arm then started shaking and his left leg like a dead weight!! I think we both guessed what was happening, some sort of TIA/small stroke. I tried out the FAST technique, but thank God nothing was wrong with his face or speech. He rang 999 and told them what had happened, they said they'd get an ambulance to us ASAP.

It took about an hour which didn't surprise us as 3 ambulances sped past us, an accident on the A30 perhaps.
When the 3 paramedics arrived, they asked what had happened, marvelous people! They checked him over. The lady asked if T minded if she drove our car to the hospital, he gladly told her not at all, but told her it was automatic, she assured him she was used to them.We sped off with the other paramedics and soon got to the hospital. They rushed him in and checked him thoroughly. Later, a Dr gave him a month's supply of blood thinners as well as increasing his BP pills too. They told us he needed to go to the stroke clinic the next day, but not to drive for a month.We phoned our daughter and SIL, our DD later drove us home after everything was complete, her hubby in their car.T had an appointment from the hospital the next day to go in on Tuesday, even though a Dr at 1 of our (now 4 surgeries all in different towns!) told us it takes ages!! 

He had all the relevant checks done and an MRI done on Wednesday to see if there was no blockage in his neck nothing showed up or on the other tests, and after the main Dr spoke to us all afterwards, she was far more concerned about his BP which showed on the scan!! The poor chap's been trying to see a Dr for a few weeks as we've a monitor here all they kept saying was go to A&E, not too stressful for a few hrs wait! She reiterated about not driving for a month and that if he has another TIA during that month he can't drive for 6 months, very wise indeed. At least his BP is ok now and he's slept a lot and feels so different, thank God.
If you haven't already got the app '3 little words' on your phones, please do as we'd have been lost! Oh what a day my friends, fortunately looking back on it all, he'd had a lot of headaches prior to the weekend and was very stressed (high BP and heat). he's slept a lot since, all helping him heal. Crikey Sue what a terrible time you’ve had. So glad to hear that T is now doing well. Make sure you both take it very easy. This blasted never ending heat certainly can’t have helped. Were mearly at the middle of August so surely it must cool down soon.

Blimey, Sue. Wishing T a restful time, though it's so difficult to be comfortable at the moment with the heat. Thank goodness he was seen quite quickly and there was a thorough investigation.

Yes, Rutland is pretty much the middle of England. Very few people know where it is, and we're quite proud of that!

I've potted £14.70 from another cashback site: Jam Doughnut. You get cashback for buying vouchers eg Tesco, Boots, Costa etc. Once I get my balance to about £15, I withdraw it and pot it!

My mother's birthday today, so we've been out for lunch. I'm now sitting on the sofa nursing a very full tummy!

Bless you Ant, it truly could have been so much worse. I was so very pleased he was able to phone them himself for a start. The female paramedic was so very kind, she even came back not long before we left just to find out how he was getting on which made me tearful, she also looked at me and said "he's on blood thinners and far better BP pills, he'll be so much better from now on"! That made us both emotional. She was a Godsend.

We've both had a very restful week with Terry have slept a lot, but he feels a lot better now, a little bored at times, as he's always been on the go, but it's helped his back problems a lot. Our best friend has phoned regularly which has been so thoughtful. We'll be glad when we can spend an afternoon with him.At least it's a lot cooler today. So very many thanks Ant xxx

... and bless you too Siju, though I suspect you on, or on the way to your holiday destination. I looked on SPC after I'd put my post on to check it was safely there, but it wasn't, then again yesterday so I was pleased to see the next page started and bingo!

T's problems could have been a lot worse I'm sure, but I firmly believe that being seen by a Dr to give him the correct amount of BP pills at least the week before would have been a great advantage and just might have stopped a TIA. T's BP had been on his mind so very much as a result.

Still, thank the Lord he's so much better now. I fully understand what you mean about taking respite in the heat might do us good, but to be honest I think we'd both be too concerned all the time. Apart from being fed up with the awful heat we've had so far this summer, but it's the new normal so we'll wait until the cool of the evenings for a gentle walk around.

Bless you Vicky, I really don't think he could have been in a better place that day, the Dr was brilliant, though I think he was surprised at the strength of T when asking him to pull and push against this hands, he raised his eyebrows and with a wry grin said he definitely thought all was well there!

Is Rutland where the Bird Fair's held? We've never been but I'm think it was called that or something similar.

Hi all. Sorry to hear you've been going through it @Sue-UU much love to you both.

Pleased to read/re-read that we can include our 1p/other challenges in this (never hurts to be refreshed) as I've never counted them in. They run at a different time to the SPC so are about three quarters of the way through by declaration day. At least including them will stop my mental gymnastics trying to work out different amounts/contributions to my SPC pot. Plum has just changed slightly as well, but I've still got just over £2k in total in there so far!

Our new doggo will arrive in Bank Holiday week; it had been tipped to be the week before but BH week is perfect as we both get the Tuesday off work as well, and I'm on leave for the rest of the week. DH also has plenty of leave left so might book more of when we find out more about what we'll be doing. He's a 16-month-old yellow pure labrador, so a bit younger than Duke was and not as far along in his training, and a bit of a handful apparently as a result. His name is… Derek 😊 and we will be having him for the full 6-month training cycle.

Very many thanks for your kind thoughts and words MrsShazbat. He's sleeping a lot most afternoons, quite natural from what the Dr tells us.

BTW, I've always added on the first post of page 1 that all savings for SPC challenges can be included on Declaration Day. So, whenever the end of year is for each challenge just add it to your subs part so you don't forget. Brilliant work with Plum!

BH weekend is the ideal time for his arrival as you'll be able to really get to know each other. Derek's a new name on me, unique too, I guess the pronounced K will make it more audible to him. At least you'll have him for a good while with the 6 month training cycle. All the best for the 3 of you.

Things sound much better with T @Sue-UU , that’s really good to hear. Wishing him a good ongoing recovery alongside more comfortable weather. I’m off to watch cricket at Taunton today so reckon I’ve guaranteed some rain!! 😆

That’s something exciting coming up for you @MrsShazbat Do you find having to be strict with them a bit difficult? I would want to spoil them and all sorts but I guess you can’t as they do such an important job.

Many thanks Ant, this morning wasn't so good, too many thoughts going through his head, but this afternoon our friends, SIL's parents, came over for the afternoon and did us both the world of good!! So much laughter it was almost like having our very precious dear friends here.Once T can drive we'll be going to see our very dear friend again, we've missed each other so very much.

Although T's apprehensive about driving again which I'm sure is inevitable, given short journeys and time I'm sure it'll be ok.

The rain kept away from us, so hopefully you'll have remained free from it. I'm so chuffed Joe Root is back as captain again, the best for a long time!

Re MrsShazbat's guide dog, we've a couple who always rear them, it's a very strict regime folk have to stick to.

Laughter is such good medicine Sue. Glad you had that nice visit to lift your spirits.

As for Joe Root, not only is he a great cricketer, he’s also a lovely guy. A friend of mine met him at a cricket match and said he was really down to earth with no airs or graces.

I’ve added quite a few coins lately. Definitely happy with progress on that front.
