@ladybird1106 and @KajiKita - a huge 'well done' from me for looking after yourselves. Change isn't easy but take it a step at a time and acknowledge each bit of progress.

Yesterday was a day of 2 halves. In the morning took the youngest to a hospital appointment and managed to actually get parked at the hospital which is always a win. We then went to the youngest volunteer placement, where they had arranged for me to me the volunteer coordinator and I have signed up to volunteer once a week to help in their online department. Left feeling very positive about life.
The afternoon i cycled to the plot and harvested the rest of the forced rhubarb. On the way home I started to think about dad and the impact his drinking affected the whole family. It’s been awhile since I’ve thought about this as I try and think positively ( not rose tinted). It’s made me feel really sad. I understood why he drank (he was a fireman and probably had ptsd), but the lasting effects on me, well….Mr🐞was very supportive as he lived it with me.
The other thing that threw me today was I went to see a podiatrist (£70) and they diagnosed that my pain is being caused by the fact that one leg is at least a cm shorter than the other.Muscle lengthening exercises given and told to continue with exercises I do as an alternative to walking. They are hoping the given exercises may lengthen the muscles that are very tight on that side and allow the leg to effectively lengthen naturally. Not sure I’ve explained that very well but it’s the cheapest option. Then if this isn’t effective will look at increasing the height of the current insole gradually. Came away glad to have a plan but it does mean hillwalking might be off the cards for now. I was due to go hillwalking in about 5 weeks with the eldest and Mr🐞😭. However, I’m glad I decided that this was the year I would focus on me and writing the above has helped me brain dump some issues.Love 🐞

Hugs for the dad thinkings x
Never easy when a close family member carries something like that around with them and ends up sharing it with everyone.I’m a bit stunned by the one leg being a bit shorter than the other. Did you know that was the case? I suppose you do have a plan and exercises to help it now. Hopefully your body will respond quickly.

Kk we ended limiting the time we exposed our kids to him. It’s such a shame I never got to know him properly and I’m just glad we got the last 2 years when he tried to be a better dad before he passed. No I didn’t know about my leg although when I was very young a boyfriend did comment a couple of time about limping. The podiatrist thinks that I’ve been able to compensate for so long as I used to be very active. Although I did used have issues with my back. However as I’ve got older and less active it’s becoming harder for my body to silently compensate. I’m trying very hard not to be too impulsive and cancel walking holidays we’ve booked later in the year. I’m going to see how I get on over the next couple of months and then it might be a case of taking our bikes instead. I’m also considering whether to pay for gym membership from my inheritance as it means swimming would be cheaper. I enjoy swimming but I need to see if it affects my skin condition. I’ve coped so far.
I think I’ll stick to rhubarb crumble daisy_1571 😋.Love 🐞

Sending love with the family thing. Its tough thinking over the past and what has happened isn't it? Ah well, a little self care and physio exercises can make a big difference.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

It turned out I had one leg shorter than the other, who knew! I had always been inclined to lower back ache - nothing dramatic or agonising. When standing I have always stood with one hip (male bird)ed. When I saw the consultant when I needed a hip replacement his first words were you have one leg shorter than the other we'll sort that. He did too. I now stand on both feet equally & the back ache is history, hip is great too. I must admit though I don't think it was as much as a cm.

Not lost any weight however in 2 weeks I’ve lost an inch off my r arm, half inch off my waist, half inch off my stomach and quarter of an inch of my r leg. Not measured left limbs, they’re on their own🤣. Pretty happy with that. I’ve really looked at my diet and adjusted it to accommodate healthier foods. I have to say I actually feel more with it since I’ve altered a few things. Need to look at portion size next. I’m still in the mindset of cooking for 5 people (Covid , mum lived here) and not changed things. I do batch cook, but I always serve our plates first and then freeze the rest. I could do with finding some plates from the 70’s as they were definitely smaller. I’ll put that on my charity shop list. Just googled plate sizes through the years and since I was born in the 1970’s plates have grown between 2 and 3” in diameter. I mean I knew they had grown but I’m astonished it’s this much. So I need to find plates that are about 9 to 10”, best write that down somewhere so I don’t forget.
Right time to make granola( I have a small sprinkling on top of my yogurt and fruit).

Plates have definitely grown. The old pyrex ones I use fit on a rack in my top cupboards, the newer ones which I rarely use do not. I would love to replace my old ones as they have lost all their pattern but I just can't find anything like as good as them.
