Thanks greenbee. I have some green manure I was going to dig in today, so that has saved me a job. Chop and drop it is. FIL has pretty much run things up there for years so it was all done the traditional way of tidy tidy tidy. However, now I have more time and energy and he has less, I’ve pretty much taken over. I’ve noticed a complete lack of wormage. I also have a comfrey bin, leaf bin and a nettle bin to make feed. Recently we got a hot bin but I don’t think I’m doing it right as it’s not getting up to temperature. I think I’m going to empty it and start again. Love spending time up there , although it’s a 6 mile round trip. Wish it was at the bottom of my garden.
Went up to the plot twice yesterday. Went on my bike in the morning, more digging done. I think after my conversation with greenbee I need to look at how to minimise this abit more😀. We went back up on the night time to have our yearly fire. Lots of dead bramble, prunings etc

In the afternoon the youngest wanted to go into town and then go to the Tesco that’s about a 4 mile walk. So we parked in town. I walked to the dr to pick up my prescription ( remembered to pay for my prepaid certificate), walked to the local retail park to collect something the youngest wanted and then walked to the library to return a book and pick up 2 more. Noticed the library doesn’t have one of the books in the series so will see if there is one in the county before getting it 2nd hand. Then met the youngest back at the town hall. Total steps for yesterday was over 17000. No wonder I slept so well last night.

If only you were all local to me. I actually pay someone to take my muck heap away - and - there you are buying in compost and struggling to make it whereas I have more than anyone could ever need.

@Watty, historically, I think I read that horse muck accumulated on farms over winter then was spread on the fields to feed the coming year's crop? Would that help the field you mentioned a while back, which isn't producing well? Though I have a feeling the field had a different problem and I'm sure you would have manured it already if it were that simple!

The fields have different issues. I tried spreading much a couple of years ago and it actually made the problems worse for reasons that are not clear - although that field may have been worse before of course. Fields and outside are next months focus :)

Can you post a load of horse poo up here @Watty1 :)

@ladybird1106 my hotbin doesn't always get up to temperature as I don't feed it enough/often enough/the right mix but it still deals with food waster better than the main compost bins (which also aren't doing well due to my 'tidy' gardener). However it is FULL of worms, so I'm happy with the temperature that it is at and will empty and redistribute worms across the garden sometime soon! I should actually cycle far more stuff through it. You need to keep stuff small and probably put more brown in that you are as it's picky. You can increase the temp by filling up the water bottle with hot water and shoving it in there which might work. And make sure it gets plenty of sun!

Ah watty1 if only you could beam it up here I would take as much as you could produce. I really need to see if one of the old timers knows where I can get some from.
Thanks greenbee , moved it to a nice sunny spot today as it was in the shade. I bought some wood chips as well as I’m not producing enough small brown stuff either.
Right best get the water cans back in their greenhouses as we just chucked them all into one last night after dousing the 🔥.

Got called away from the plot by the youngest who said they were nearly sick in college, could I pick them up. They went straight to bed drugs and toast administered and that was them for the night. Date walk today is cancelled 😞. We were both really looking forward to it. Suggested we start decluttering the garage but the garden needs doing apparently. There is always an excuse 😤.

What a shame about your walk. I guess we are into the season of everything growing and it helps to keep on top of it, but garage avoidance is obviously a thing - could you make a small start yourself, then at least you know something is happening?

I hope youngest feels better soon.

That’s huge! Well done to Mr and Mrs Ladybird 😊👏 A garage you can walk though … 🤩

What is horrendous about the back part where the extension is? Clutter, debris, random stuff?
