And mine are of the Argentinian Malbec type, they're very smooth and not as bitter as some.Bobblehat said:My grapes are tasting of Aussie Shiraz at the moment .... cheers
It's been a busy week for me with maturities, maturity follow on accounts and new accounts, just as the next couple of months will be.
According to Wiki there are currently 42 active Building Societies in the UK and with very recent new relationships established for me mean I'm a customer to 31 of them. It takes me back to my Carpet Bagging days !
Is it possible to get a Full House I wonder !3 -
I've just counted 21, incidentally the exact same as my RS count - though I only speculatively open when there has been something worth speculatively opening for. Once a member, I keep an account even if I am not actively saving there any longer (currently 3, but will be 5 by the New Year unless things change.)

I think Bridlington1 did a recent breakdown of potential acquisitions of RS's from a wide spectrum of Banks and Building Societies and mentioned that some were mutually exclusive for a handful of reasons. One of the reasons was the physical impossibility of living in a multiple of postcodes simultaneously in order to qualify for a diverse collection of regional RS'sexel1966 said:

I'm sure that small detail won't stop some people from trying

Though unlike regular savers I believe it is possible to get a full house with the building societies (or at least the ones listed on wikipedia anyway).Bobblehat said:

I've currently got accounts with 38 of the 42 listed on wikipedia to start with, the ones I've not got are:
Cumberland BS- ineligible due to living outside their operating area:
Swansea BS- Ineligible due to not being an existing customer or living in Wales
Marsden BS- Eligible for accounts but their min deposits are too steep for my liking barring branch accounts which are impractical for me to open.
Teachers BS- Eligible for accounts but their min deposits are too steep for my liking
Therefore it would seem that it is theoretically possible for me to get a full house, though in order to do so I would need to move to Wales, open a Swansea BS account, then move to Cumberland's operating area to open an account with them.

Could you become a MP for somewhere in the Lake District, but live in South Wales ..... and maybe bag an obscure London BS account at the same time
Oooh! I just googled Cumberland BS and spotted there is a branch in Preston .... just a free bus-ride away from my home. Thanks for mentioning them ... I must explore the possibilities

Becoming a MP might be a route to being a member of less Building Societies, as PEP rules seem to be a headache they don't want.Bobblehat said:

It was 14 two years ago. The difference probably reflects the increasing number of building societies offering products online and by post outside their catchment areas. 2 -
Well if you ask me for a straight answer, then I shall say that, as far as I can see, looking at it by and large, taking one thing with another in terms of the considerations of the practicalities, then in the final analysis it is probably true to say, that at the end of the day, in general terms, you would probably find that, not to put too fine a point on it, on the basis of all probabilities, there probably isn't very much in it one way or the other as far as one can see, at this stage.Bobblehat said:

This is a good list :Quite a few I've not heard of and potential prospects.I looked into credit unions, and there are a lot, but as far as I can see they typically don't have RS type accounts and the accounts they do offer may give a share of profit, and that's variable and may be zero.I'm also wondering how people of no fixed abode in Swansea or Cumbria open an account with the respective BS ? Could a care of address be used temporarily ? Maybe a camp site, a hotel, or a hostel or similar.0

Just park your camper van next to a branch overnight and claim their address is yours. I was surprised to see Virgin on the list. Is it because VM is now owned by Nationwide? Looks like I'm a member of one more BS than I thought.1
