Co-op's also on that list due to being taken over by Coventry BS, both are listed as subsidiary banks.allegro120 said:

Could a care of address be used temporarily ? Maybe a camp site, a hotel, or a hostel or similar.
I was surprised to see Virgin on the list. Is it because VM is now owned by Nationwide? Looks like I'm a member of one more BS than I thought.1 -
Credit unions aren't ones I've had much in the way of dealings with, dividends are usually quite low (2.25% in the case of my nearest credit union) but many do allow deposits by DD so can be of use in this regard. You occasionally get the odd offer where they'll give you however much as a bonus if you open a specific type of savings account with them so worth keeping an eye on just in case.Born2Save_3 said:This is a good list :Quite a few I've not heard of and potential prospects.I looked into credit unions, and there are a lot, but as far as I can see they typically don't have RS type accounts and the accounts they do offer may give a share of profit, and that's variable and may be zero.I'm also wondering how people of no fixed abode in Swansea or Cumbria open an account with the respective BS ? My OCD doesn't like empty boxes, so can you please amend my listing, Solo 11, Other 1, PM £3050, Total value £35000, Return £2000, Min 5.5%
Please keep up the hard work1 -
You've got the job well done.Bridlington1 said:
Well if you ask me for a straight answer, then I shall say that, as far as I can see, looking at it by and large, taking one thing with another in terms of the considerations of the practicalities, then in the final analysis it is probably true to say, that at the end of the day, in general terms, you would probably find that, not to put too fine a point on it, on the basis of all probabilities, there probably isn't very much in it one way or the other as far as one can see, at this stage.Bobblehat said:

Though unlike regular savers I believe it is possible to get a full house with the building societies (or at least the ones listed on wikipedia anyway).Bobblehat said:
I think Bridlington1 did a recent breakdown of potential acquisitions of RS's from a wide spectrum of Banks and Building Societies and mentioned that some were mutually exclusive for a handful of reasons. One of the reasons was the physical impossibility of living in a multiple of postcodes simultaneously in order to qualify for a diverse collection of regional RS'sexel1966 said:

It's been a busy week for me with maturities, maturity follow on accounts and new accounts, just as the next couple of months will be.
According to Wiki there are currently 42 active Building Societies in the UK and with very recent new relationships established for me mean I'm a customer to 31 of them. It takes me back to my Carpet Bagging days !
Is it possible to get a Full House I wonder !
I'm sure that small detail won't stop some people from trying
I've currently got accounts with 38 of the 42 listed on wikipedia to start with, the ones I've not got are:
Cumberland BS- ineligible due to living outside their operating area:
Swansea BS- Ineligible due to not being an existing customer or living in Wales
Marsden BS- Eligible for accounts but their min deposits are too steep for my liking barring branch accounts which are impractical for me to open.
Teachers BS- Eligible for accounts but their min deposits are too steep for my liking
Therefore it would seem that it is theoretically possible for me to get a full house, though in order to do so I would need to move to Wales, open a Swansea BS account, then move to Cumberland's operating area to open an account with them.
I choose the rooms that I live in with care,
The windows are small and the walls almost bare,
There's only one bed and there's only one prayer;
I listen all night for your step on the stair.1 -
@Bobblehat Can you post a link or tell me where to find the league table of RS's please? I've had a look, but I'm obviously looking in the wrong places. Thanks.0

I wouldn't go anywhere near Credit Unions due to the high failure rates, something like 100 in the past 15 years ? And then on top of that are those which are put in default which are numerous, many due to maladministration or incompetent administration.Bridlington1 said:

Very high risk strategy for little return in most cases even if they can be a benefit to a community (temporarily).0 -
Hi luci ... if you mean the "league table of how many RS's do you have" ... as in the title of this thread (started by topyam), then I publish it here within this thread every week or so. If you look back a page or two you should find the latest updated table.luci said:@Bobblehat Can you post a link or tell me where to find the league table of RS's please? Many thanks for the link. Yes, I did mean your "league table of how many RS's do you have". I follow this thread, so don't know how I missed that, so I appreciate the link. I wasn't sure if it was a Page 1 post that was updated.Bobblehat said:

A couple of suggestions though. In order to make your list easier to find you could launch a new thread, a How many regular savers do you have thread with your list on the opening post which can be continuously updated. You could also make that thread a no chat thread for updates to your list only, with any regular savers discussion going into the main regular savers discussion thread.Bobblehat said:

Alternatively you could also make a post in the main regular savers discussion thread and the main regular savers discussion thread could take on the role of this thread, as I'd consider how many regular savers people have to be within the scope of that thread.
In both cases a link to your list could be included on p1 of the main regular savers discussion thread.
Both might just make it easier for people to find your list without having to scroll through several pages to find the most recent version.4
