It looks like Sports Soccer is closing down all over.
The branch at Fosse Park, Leicester is also closing down. Someone I know enquired about a job their and they were told that they are not recruiting as they are closing down.
The shop is a real bargain and most of the families leisure wear is bought from them as they are a lot cheaper than JJB Sport.
The prices can't get any cheaper. I bought 2 Umbro T shirts for £2.99 each and footballs are priced at about £3.50.
My advice is to get down there quick and grab the bargains before it's to late!0 -

I work at sports soccer - Up until today we were under instruction not to give any reasoning as to the closing down sales but we have now been given additonal details to release and for your information :
SPORTS SOCCER as a brand is being discontinued and therefore all sports soccer branded shops are being closed. As of september all these shops we'll re-open under the new brand of sports world international which has been the face of sports soccer over europe for the last couple of years.
The shops will be closed for re-branding/fitting and merchandising but ALL shops will re-open.
It is unlikely that the same level of bargains will be available after the re-branding so it is still a VERY good opportunity to buy cheap stuff.
HOPE THIS HELPS AND REMOVES ANY CONFUSION YOU'VE HAD OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS0 -

Thanks for the info. Re. the quote above, do you mean the same prices as there are currently in store due to them "closing down" or do you mean the normal prices they used to have won't be as cheap either?
it'd be a shame if you meant the latter as they're an excellent shop for cheap sports stuff.0 -
if theyd used football instead of that american term then maybe theyd have survived0

I'm a regular visitor of Sports Soccer and only difference i've seen from the past is big banners of closing down sale. Prices are same as previous (sports soccor have 365 days sale). Still i can see some NIKE stuffs are cheap with LX-Direct online0

The current prices due to re-branding.
The store's normal prices will still remain lower than that of competitors.antoniomontana wrote:if theyd used football instead of that american term then maybe theyd have survived
the shop was originally formed as 'SPORTS & SKI" and then evolved to SPORTS SOCCER. the company carried out a massive survey to find a more appropriate and recognisable name hence SPORTS WORLD.

There was a big story in the Oxford Mail at the weekend about this because of worries that another store in town was closing. Sports Soccer confirmed to the paper that they are not closing, despite EVERY window saying they are. It is just a rebranding exercise to call themselves Sports World.
Presumably in about 2 years they will be "closing down" to become "Sports Superstore" or something similar?
It will be a shame if they don't carry on with their cheap pricing though - my boys have had some good cheap shirts from there in the past. You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
Well maybe when they reopen they'll do something about the flippin awful queues!
Went to the Fort branch yesterday (Brum) and queued for 3/4 hour to pay - ridiculous! The girl on the till said 'oh, it's because everyone comes in at the same time' ... yer what?
Anyway, there are definitely some bargains to be had. We picked up my eldest's sports kit for his new school in September (the first time ever that I haven't started running around the shops in a panic three days before school starts) - Umbro shorts £2.99 reduced from £9.99, Umbro t-shirt £2.99 reduced from £9.99, football socks £2.49 reduced from £5, and my favourite bargain of all - an Umbro padded jacket - £7.99 reduced from £50.00 - it definitely made that queue a whole lot more bearable than it otherwise would have been!
