I've been to the preston one and agree with westy they are no cheaper whatsoever despite the closing down sale. Just one big con I think

Jay-Jay totally agree it is awful to get round with a pram.
Give me the boy until he's seven and i'll give you the man.

Dazco, I have to say I have to second that! My local is in Preston & my son's dragged me there this evening. Dispite a closing down sale sign in the window the prices were exactly the same as a couple of weeks ago. I am always amazed at the lack of customer service and at how rude the staff can be, as you say even speaking about their private issues instead of serving

I think you should be happy your son drags you in there. I'm assuming you are a money saver - so surely you'd prefer him to take you there than some of the more expensive sports shops. (i.e. the JJB a couple of doors away at the deepdale retail park :)) - there was a reason why the JJB on that retail park have just halved their store size!

Aggresive management and 16 yr olds are what get you the prices that you pay. only a fool would expect not to compensate customer service for ridiculously low prices.

As for the prices in the closing down sale - the company continiously lowers prices and it would be hard to find better bargains.

It annoys me how people seem to complain all the time without actually thinking why their basket is actually full of their stuff. People make the choice to shop there - and i doubt the reason people walk into sports soccer is for customer service!

You may not like the customer service & queues but i'm sure your pocket isnt complaining :)

why the support for sports soccer - iv worked at the preston store part time for 5 yrs since it opened and our store has always been fully committed to customer service - but its impossible to keep queues down if you've got thousands of people walking through the store every day ;)

    Sales of Goods Act

A company is only entitled to give a refund if the goods are faulty - and even so if within a reasonable time. (a reasonable time for trainers is about 3 days)

i know exactly what you mean, but its even worse with a 3 yr old and a pram trying to get round the 'shop' you end up losing the kid and dragging all the racks along with the pram!

I've been in once with my family a few months ago and after waiting like 45 minutes to get served I wrote their head office a letter of complaint. They did write back but only to say in effect that they didn't really care.

The only thing keeping us going in the queue was the sheer determination that the previous x minutes would not be wasted!

Can't stand the place. Hope they shut down for good but I suspect its a con and it could be just a rebranding exercise and they'll pop up under a different name/company structure. There's a local car dealer which does the same every few years.

    'ALL STOCK MUST GO'
Has anyone ever seen a shop with a sign up saying "Some stock must stay"??
I'm a cynical old bu**er so to me this looks like another of those "let's clear out as much stock as we can while we have the chance, cos times are hard" sales. Then in about 3 or 4 weeks time the "Closing Down" signs will all be taken down.

Yes, I'm a money saver, and no I'm no fool but I still expect decent customer service and even some basic manners dispite lower than adverage prices.

No my pocket is not complaining, mainly as I previously stated, we walked out yesterday empty handed as the prices were identical as they were two weeks ago, dispite the huge sale signs on the window, which is a complete rip off!!

If the Preston store is fully comitted to costomer service as you state I shudder to think of the service you receive when it's lacking then. You said yourself people didn't go there for the customer service and I can only agree.

Regarding your comment it's impossible to keep queues down, I think you'll find I didn't even mention that. I carn't expect them to do two jobs efficiently now can I , chat AND serve.
Now thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker :)

    Westywoodpecker,

apologies for sounding like i'm having a go - not directed at you personally.

It just annoys me cos some of us in the shop actually DO try to assist people as best we can. We cant really do much about the school leaving 16 year olds :) i guess we need them more than they can be bothered to do the job!

I agree with Biglugs,we see these signs all the time just a con in my

opinion, usually big signs and there out of direct sight a wee sign [for

    stocktaking,refurbishment etc],still open years later.

Don`t know if there is a store in Edinburgh/West Lothian
