Have seen several of these stores recently, all with the white washed window etc, but our nearest has been like that now for well over 6 months, so not sure if it's just a con to get you in there!! They seemed to be pretty well stocked last time I went in & plenty bargains!!

The one at the Fort, Cheetham Hill, Manchester has 'supposedly' been closing down since it opened.

I went with my 2 children a few weeks ago and noticed lots of empty rails to show things were selling fast. I asked at the till when they were closing down as I was thinking of buying really early for xmas and they said ...

THEY'RE NOT!!!

Its a con, Ok, I know the stuff is cheap but surely trading standards must have something to say if there are HUGE posters up saying they are closing when they aren't.

Still a great place for a bargain though!!!!!!

It's not necessarily a con. You see it's all a word play on the English language.


You can have a Closing down sale. It means the sale is in the style of a closing down sale.
A long time ago you could buy Hedgehog flavoured crisps. There was a major outcry about poor hedgehogs, but the company was called Hedgehog and they were selling 'flavoured crisps'
If you get what I am trying to say?????????

I do, but I think it's a bit different in this case. They shouldn't say they are closing when they are not.
Most of the public (I hope) realised that the crisps were not really made of hedgehog, but in this case, most of the public (I'm guessing) do beleive that this place is closing down.
I'm not bothered either way as the kids stuff is good there but it is misleading.

its similar to the old MFI trick select a store fill it with all the new lines put everything up to a really high price say £500 for a cupboard then advertise all over britain that its now in the sale, was £500 now £100 thats a 80% discount .they are not breaking the law just bending it as what they are saying is the truth.

I think they sometimes say closing and open up under a slightly different name. Like Sports and Soccer world or some crap like that. So yes, misleading.

Just like when I saw them leaving racks empty with a sign put there saying "too late it's already sold out" to try and make people go in a buying frenzy. It's all poor marketing.

I hope people here buy because they want something and it's at a price they want. Not because other people are buying or because a place is supposedly closing etc etc.

i'm glad they're not closing as i enjoy talking about quantum physics with the sales assistants ....if they're not too busy talking about who they 'did' at the weekend that is !!

am glad not closing too as for some reason ds1 enjoys looking at their trainers so much he is well behaved while i do my boots tarting as otherwise he won't get to go to sportsworld! umbro sweatshirts at £1.69 mean he is well stocked up too.

Ha ha it's funny you say that because the Sports world in Liverpool City Centre says 'closing down all stock must go' and then has a sign on the door saying that it is looking for full or part time staff. How stupid.
