    I’ve just tried to open a barclays account but when I downloaded the app it just said register and then register your barclays debit card, credit card etc, so I picked credit card as I have one with them went through all the ID to only find out it’s the same app I’ve already got for my credit card and no way to open a bank account, I take it this is why people say it’s awkward to open an account with them then as I think I’ve done it all right but didn’t give me the option to open a new current account?.

    Yes, their app experience is terrible.
    you need to deregister the app and then register as a new user to be able to access the apply for bank account option.

    Yep. It's s like you can only have the app for 1 thing, be it mortgage, credit card or bank account.

    Ignoring the fact I paid £1,500 in just after the account opened and as such irrelevant: how does one pay in £800 into a Barclay's account via a DD? Odd wording here!

    Well the Barclays experience is finished for my wife, she paid a tenner into the opened but inaccessible account a week ago, and today that was switched via Cass into her existing Santander account. 

    Very good luck to everyone still trying to jump through the various hoops to extract the switch bonus though😏.

    It says "new customers only", but delving deep into the T&Cs, it looks like you might still be eligible if you previously had a current account with them but it's no longer open on the date this offer started. Provided you haven't previously received a switching bonus from them, of course.
    Anyone know if this is the case and have tried it as I think I had an account many years ago and might give this a try and open an account for the switch offer?.

    I'll know within the next fortnight but I guess that will be too late for you. The issue may be with getting the app to accept you as you'll have old "profiles". That was an issue a friendly staff member had to "get round" for us in branch

    I got a message on the 15th saying I'd be paid within 10 days, money landed today.

    Also worth noting my new account was opened on the app so they may not be enforcing that requirement very thoroughly.
