Wanted to vent how appalling this bank is.Have to make an in-person visit to the branch to complete an application. It's laughable. Visiting a branch that closes at 3pm in 2025. I already hold a Barclaycard credit card too!I wondered why I didn't claim this offer 2 years ago and it's because they have the most appalling software I've ever seen on a high-street bank. What a joke of an institution.1

Ugh, I know I’m late to the party attempting to make this switch on the closing date but… the first thing the app requires me to do is verify my identity using either a driving licence or a valid passport. I’ve mopped up about just about every previous bank switch bonus that I’ve been eligible for (which explains why I’m now down to Barclays) and it’s gone very smoothly every time. I’ve never been asked to do this before.
The reason I’m a reasonable risk as a prospective customer is that I have a steady (if not high) income and a very decent credit rating which reflects sensible money management. Part of sensible money management is that I don’t go abroad, or on holiday at all, if I can’t afford it, hence I don’t renew my passport (which is also expensive) until I need to. I don’t drive, for various reasons, one of which is the expense of learning to do so and running a car.
When I click the option to say I don’t have either of those ID options, it tells me to open my account on the website. But I know that if I do that, I won’t be eligible for the switch bonus. Not asking for a solution – I know it’s a business and can set its own rules within legal limits - just expressing that I’m peed off.

I think with Barclays, it's more likely to succeed if you apply during banking hours.0 -
