Wanted to vent how appalling this bank is.

Have to make an in-person visit to the branch to complete an application. It's laughable. Visiting a branch that closes at 3pm in 2025. I already hold a Barclaycard credit card too!

I wondered why I didn't claim this offer 2 years ago and it's because they have the most appalling software I've ever seen on a high-street bank. What a joke of an institution.

Most regulars on this board already know how awful this bank is as we've been through the horrors of this switching experience in previous years.

Hope you're feeling better after your vent. ;)

To be fair my opening and switching process has been very pleasant so far absolutely no issues at all, opened the account with ease and then called them up to ask them to merge my bank and credit card account which they did and said would be visible within 3 days which it was, just waiting for the full switch to finish now and the bonus to be paid, only gripe is I’ll have to pay the first £5 of the blue rewards but that’s mainly bad timing on my part but will still be a easy £170.

Ugh, I know I’m late to the party attempting to make this switch on the closing date but… the first thing the app requires me to do is verify my identity using either a driving licence or a valid passport.  I’ve mopped up about just about every previous bank switch bonus that I’ve been eligible for (which explains why I’m now down to Barclays) and it’s gone very smoothly every time.  I’ve never been asked to do this before.

The reason I’m a reasonable risk as a prospective customer is that I have a steady (if not high) income and a very decent credit rating which reflects sensible money management.  Part of sensible money management is that I don’t go abroad, or on holiday at all, if I can’t afford it, hence I don’t renew my passport (which is also expensive) until I need to.  I don’t drive, for various reasons, one of which is the expense of learning to do so and running a car.

When I click the option to say I don’t have either of those ID options, it tells me to open my account on the website.  But I know that if I do that, I won’t be eligible for the switch bonus.  Not asking for a solution – I know it’s a business and can set its own rules within legal limits - just expressing that I’m peed off.

Looks like this is the new norm now about everyone being excluded if they have ever received a switching bonus.
Yep. Only just seen this thread but I wouldn't qualify anyway.

I've been holding on to a few accounts ready for a switch but I'm constantly not eligible because I've previously had an offer or my account isn't new enough.

I've registered for an account on the app and tried to initiate the switch but keep getting an error message. Do you think they've tried to pull the offer before its 11.59 cut off?

You left it until minutes before the deadline to apply?   :#

I think with Barclays, it's more likely to succeed if you apply during banking hours.

I'd been trying for an hour beforehand. The first error message I've logged was at 10.30pm. I work during banking hours - isn't that the point of digital banking and applying through the app? What's the point of a 11.59 deadline if it's not honoured?
