    Just received this text but no mention of the incentive is this normal or should they have mentioned the incentive if I was gonna be getting it or has other people received this one and then another text regarding the incentive?. Thanks. 

    5 1/2 hours later I got this one :
    Hi xxxxxxx, good news - you qualify for our current account switch offer. You'll get your £175 bonus payment in the next 10 days. Thanks for switching to us. Your Barclays team

    Brilliant so did you receive the same text as me then but then got that other text later on afterwards if so hopefully I get another text shortly.
    Yep. Earlier in the same day. So give it 5 or 6 hours and fingers crossed
    Thanks, reason I ask is I’m not sure if I qualify as i wasn’t sure from the start if I’ve had an account before otherwise I’d have been pretty confident in getting it, fingers crossed like you say. 
    At least one if not both of us had had an account albeit going back 5 or 10 years

    I'll know within the next fortnight but I guess that will be too late for you. The issue may be with getting the app to accept you as you'll have old "profiles". That was an issue a friendly staff member had to "get round" for us in branch
    Did you get the incentive?.

    I've been receiving several emails & text messages from Barclays, such as "Welcome" messages with the last 4 digits of my new account; and a promise to send my new Debit Card within a certain number of days.
    Only problem is (as posted earlier).....Being a newbie to Barclays, I haven't yet proved my ID to them.
    So I phoned their call centre to ask what was going on.
    They told me to ignore the messages.
    What a shambles !!!

    Yeah I got the incentive text yesterday so should be getting it soon too, happy days for both of us.
  • Was starting to wonder where the £175 had got to so thought I’d check my account. Noticed I still had the £5 left in there for Blue Rewards. Had a look, and it looks like I never signed up? However I know I did, because I remember doing it and seeing the screen afterwards saying I hadn’t used my benefits yet. I also remember there being an issue where I couldn’t initially access the rewards page, but I assumed that was just a temporary issue while I initially signed up. Has anyone else had this problem?

    The call centre lied, and I've received my Debit Card, PIN number and Internet banking set up (without needing to go into a branch and prove my ID).
    So,after 2 more calls I managed to speak to an English person and he advised me that my application had progressed on further rather than being left in "limbo" ??!! During this call I managed to cancel the account and will probably start again from scratch when Barclays bring back the switching bonus - probably in 2026.
    Lessons to be learnt : Don't leave it to the last minute to apply; and Don't rely on everything the call centre says to be Gospel !

    Well guess what ?
    The call centre lied, and I've received my Debit Card, PIN number and Internet banking set up (without needing to go into a branch and prove my ID).
    So,after 2 more calls I managed to speak to an English person and he advised me that my application had progressed on further rather than being left in "limbo" ??!! During this call I managed to cancel the account and will probably start again from scratch when Barclays bring back the switching bonus - probably in 2026.
    Lessons to be learnt : Don't leave it to the last minute to apply; and Don't rely on everything the call centre says to be Gospel !
    ... another possible lesson? when things go wrong with Barclays raise a complaint. I received the £175 as compensation this year when failing to open a current account.

    Yes true Claire, definitely worth a try in 2026, but I may hit the same problems again, just as I did last year when I received 3 x £50 compensation. Problems with the app, ID verification, telephone customer service, branch appointments, profile merging, being out of time and the number of hours I'd spent ...
