You can, the risk is that it takes a few days to process and you miss the deadline.Speculator said:Now the May fiver has been paid, can we not "upgrade" the account to an ordinary current account then upgrade back to a Reward account?

My experience with Lloyds accounts is that things update immediately and are visible after you log out and log back in to online banking. I'd imagine Halifax would behave similarly0

Who wants to try it then?Speculator said:

Surely, someone on here has a reward account that only has a month or 2 of rewards left. They would not risk losing much to try to see if they could change it to an ordinary acc and then back to s reward acc.crumpet_man said:

What would be the point though, if rewards stop altogether at the end of September. Best case scenario you'd be saving a fiver or two.Stargunner said:

We don’t know that they will definitely stop, and the t&c’s for the Reward acc state that the rewards will run for 12 consecutive months from the offer start date.trient said:

Halifax haven't said anything about stopping the rewards at the end of September. The scheme is being refreshed later this year and the current rewards cannot be added to new/renewed accounts from 17th June. That is all we know.trient said:What would be the point though, if rewards stop altogether at the end of September. Best case scenario you'd be saving a fiver or two.1 -
Well, I've tried it.
One of my rewards has an end date of August 2025. I 'upgraded' said account to the fee-free "Current Account". Logged out, logged back in, checked the tracker and the account had disappeared. So far, so good.
I then upgraded the account back to Rewards. No invitation to set a Reward up which I'm pretty sure is part of the journey normally. Logged out, logged back in - account has reappeared in tracker which reports the account already has a Reward expiring August 2025.
It would appear this method does not work. What would work (if you hold 3 or fewer Reward accounts) would be downgrading to a Current Account then applying for a brand new Reward account. I wouldn't recommend this though as LBG are known to hand out bans for rapid account applications.
I realise I'm putting rather too much stock in the tracker here but as it stands its all I have to go on. Will check over the next few days to ensure a Reward remains set.3 -
I closed my Reward account and once it disappeared online, opened a new one. I added a Reward which is now valid till 30 June 2026.3
