You get a gift that keeps on giving - ie a house presumably appreciating in value. You could sell the house in years to come and almost certainly get more for it than was given to your siblings at the time. And the value of their fixed cash amount may arguably have even depreciated due to inflation, widening the difference even more...

    But if the house had been sold then the other siblings would not have received significantly more cash (they might even have received less depending on selling costs) and they do have options other than keeping it in cash. Buying their own house, paying down their mortgage, investing it, splashing it on a round the world cruise, etc, etc.
