Thank you for the well wishes @jwil. And thank you @redofromstart my staple supermarket is sains but pop into lidl on occasion. I thought I looked at Sains online for their pulses but I will gladly check again. I’ve had a look at amzn too and they’re cheaper on there. I really do need to scrimp in August so more veggie meals!

ETA thank you so much, I have just checked and they are indeed half price. I will stop off on my way home from work tomorrow!

Sorry youve been ill. Years ago a hospital consultant told my husband that if you're 'low' but continue working without regular 'downtime' what happens is adrenaline kicks in and gets you through the day to day but the minute you stop work for a rest then slam you are prone to infection and ill. He compared it to driving along at high speed and then suddenly you see a brick wall, no opportunity to slow down you're going to hit it. I think thats whats happened here.

Glad youve been paid. On the subject of taking regular breaks, with the company you work for potentially having issues,  make sure you havent got loads of AL built up. You dont want a battle if the worst happens where the company hasnt enough money and youre owed holiday pay.

Hi @Spendless thank you for your message, yes I believe you are right in that. My dad was the same, always got ill on holiday. I don’t have a lot of leave left but thank you for thinking of me.

I got drenched at work so didn’t end up going into Sains, I did have to top up with fuel for £48, and got a £3 off a £30 spend so that might be helpful when I go to buy my beans when I’m back. Work was crazy. Meeting after meeting, there are lots of mutterings and bad feeling and whisperings about what is and isn’t happening, meeting still hasn’t happened either for the higher ups. I’m clinging on for dear life and feel like I’m fighting a battle with imaginary enemies. Oh and just to top my day off some guy, I don’t know his name, was sitting at a desk quite a way from me but was very noisily clipping his fingernails….. I mean…. Did he need to do that at work *insert sick face here*, the thought of it gives me shivers.

I am feeling a lot better thank you @bi@biggerpickle although OH now has a rotten cold. We go away for a couple of days tomorrow, all prepaid so although a tight month I can’t cancel or change this so we will enjoy it. Have done mountains of washing today so house looks like a laundrette. But at least it’s drying.

MSE things, ok so I did not buy breakfast at work today, it is a social Friday thing at work, I didn’t have any other food either but I ended up being on a call until after everyone came back so that was a bonus although I was very hungry….. and I didn’t even get anything from the vending machine *polishes halo*.

Anyway need to hang up this next load of laundry. Thanks for reading :)

Have just realised my massive faux pas, I don’t come back until 6th so I miss the chickpeas and kidney beans on offer at sains!

Good luck with it.  Public sector job sounds like a good idea.  Remember you got this job and offered the previous job - so you've clearly got the skills and come across well in interview.

Have a good break and hope the cold eases off!

Might be worth looking for a Civil Service job that is daytime hours only and when the children are old enough to look after themselves transfer into your preferred job with shifts.  It's relatively easy to transfer from one department to another - I did it a couple of times.  The only one I didn't take though was transferring from a London job to a local one as the difference in pay just was'nt doable - about £10K difference and my fares were about £2.5K so I was prepared to drop a bit but not that much.

Universities and colleges may also be worth looking at as they are fairly decent pay, some are cutting jobs now but might be worth a look. Remember too that lots of places also offer hybrid working so you may be able to just go in a few days each week. Linked in also have jobs so may be worth looking there too.

Early morning ramblings are the best! Everything seems fresh in your mind, good to get it all down. Enjoy your break with OH
