I accepted it to see what would happen.

Part of the permissions it asked for is accessing your phone

I waited 24 hours and then looked at the app permission settings and found that it had indeed accessed my phone within the last 24 hours so no idea why

    looking at Santander's twitter...
SanProtect is a tool that uses behavioural biometrics to assess the way customers interact with their devices while using mobile banking. It analyses factors like typing speed and swipe patterns to identify genuine user behaviour versus potential fraudulent activity. This tool helps improve fraud detection by risk-scoring high-risk transactions, such as money movements and personal detail updates.
... and then as to what permission it needs...
Android customers will need to allow device permissions for us to use ‘Active call’ and ‘Bluetooth connect’ features. Customers will still be able to use the app if they decline the request. Where permissions are not accepted, customers may be presented with further requests later.
as I use the app for Cahoot, i'll continue to decline.

It looks like accepting and then revoking the permissions isn't away around being nagged about this in the future. After revoking a week ago, I was asked again to enable it today.

I have enough trouble when I try to log in after sanding a piece of wood and my slightly abraded digits mean I’m not me anymore 🤭
    That's the 'Sand Protect' feature.

Seems I'm going to have to accept SanProtect if I'm ever going to be able to use the App again. I don't want to switch banks and even if I did no doubt there'd be a San Protect equivalent there too.

I needed to use the app today and got stuck with the you're not using San Protect. Bizarrely as I'm typing this message I just tried the app again and it let me in.
