Santander 'San protect'

Just opened my Santander banking app and got a message saying 'allow Santander to make and manage phone calls' and 'allow Santander to know the location of nearby devices'
This is so they can protect you from spam phone calls using 'san protect'
Has anybody else had this? I wonder how it works as obviously there is no guarantee the Santander app is running when a spam phone call arrives.

Noticed it as well. Did not proceed with agreeing.
Seems to be nothing to do with phone calls.

There is also no other mention of "san protect" in the context of Santander anywhere else on the web.Highly suspect, methinksI am a Santander customer, too, didn't get anything about this (yet).0 -

This doesn't mention phone calls or "san protect" which the OP mentions1 -
My god it is as if this is a child's account. What are people coming to.0

It does make you wonder if the person who came up with the product name considered the possibility that it'll be abbreviated to 'sanpro'....0

Yes I couldn't find anything on Google either and on looking through the app there is no obvious setting about it
I would be interested if anybody else gets the notification when they open their app0 -
I launched the new app for the first time on an old Android phone and SanProtect came us as part of the setup process.
Screen 1:"Level up against the latest scam
Our SanProtect tool helps us to detect scam activity when you're using our app. For example, we'll check for any rogue Bluetooth connections."
Screen 2:
"Don't let scammers winWe need the following permissions to help protect you:
- Make and manage phone calls
- Find and connect nearby devices
Don't worry - SanProtect keeps your data private and doesn't listen in to calls
<Allow> and <Setup later> (or words to this effect)
Page 3 after I chose not to allow:
"SanProtect not activated!
We have not turned on SanProtect technology.
You can change this at anytime using your device settings for this app."
