Santander 'San protect'

I keep getting this on the app. No explanation, I’m just supposed to accept it. Then when you are on holiday say and doing your usual transactions or different holiday related transactions in comes san pro to stop you because it divines you are not you anymore, you are behaving differently, really, maybe it’s difficult to see the screen in the bright Spanish sunshine and you no longer have access to your money pitching you into a nightmare.Santander happy because they’ve stopped any money leaving the account while you desperately try to contact them and sort out the non problem they created. Not that I really understand all this guff, internet banking doesn’t seem fit for purpose. Should be simple but not.
I have enough trouble when I try to log in after sanding a piece of wood and my slightly abraded digits mean I’m not me anymore 🤭0 -
Internet banking is pretty simple to use. Banking apps are sometimes simple to use and sometimes not.Yorkshire_Pud said:Not that I really understand all this guff, internet banking doesn’t seem fit for purpose. Should be simple but not.0 -
I assume Yorkshire_Pud is including banking apps within the concept of 'internet banking'. It's all using the internet, whether using banking apps or on a banking website via a web browser (which is itself just another app).GeoffTF said:

That is true, both use TCP/IP connections. Both methods are "online banking" too. I do not know of any commonly used term for banking over the World Wide Web that would satisfy the pedants. Web banking perhaps?Zanderman said:

"Banking using a web browser" versus "Banking in a dedicated application" perhaps?GeoffTF said:

May want to further distinguish further between "Banking using a desktop web browser" versus "Banking using a mobile web browser" because they can be very different experiences.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Credit Cards, Savings & investments, and Budgeting & Bank Accounts boards. Maybe! 'Web banking' would work for website-based banking. I wasn't, I hope, being overly pedantic, but was simply pointing out that in the context of Yorkshire_Pud's remark on 'internet banking', I think they meant both web-based and banking apps and weren't differentiating the two.GeoffTF said:

Tell me your marketing department is entirely men without telling me ...
I agree it is like something they would take the mickey out of in the Ant & Dec ads!0 -
For those interested, I enabled it temporarily to see what happens. It did start using the granted phone and nearby device permissions overnight without me doing anything in the app, so I have revoked them. As others have mentioned, there is no way to do this in the app, I used my device settings.2

Also been offered it in the app. Declined every time.

Same here. It's poor that Santander aren't explaining exactly how it works. I won't accept it unless I fully understand what it's doing on my phone.1
