I have been getting that message for the last week or two.  This is what AI produces when I do a search:

SanProtect is a tool that utilizes behavioral biometrics to assess customer interactions during mobile banking. This method analyzes patterns in how users interact with their devices, such as keystroke dynamics and touchscreen behavior, to verify their identity and detect potential fraud.
    Elaboration:
    • What is Behavioral Biometrics?
Behavioral biometrics focuses on analyzing a person's unique patterns of interaction with a device.
How it works in Mobile Banking:
    • Keystroke Dynamics: This involves analyzing how a user types, including timing, pressure, and pauses between keystrokes.
    • Touchscreen Interaction: The software monitors the user's touch pressure, finger movements, and patterns on the touchscreen.
    Benefits:
    • Enhanced Security: Behavioral biometrics provides an extra layer of security beyond traditional methods like passwords or PINs.
Fraud Detection: By identifying unusual patterns, the tool can detect potential fraud or unauthorized access.
    Example:
SanProtect, as you mentioned, is a specific tool that leverages these techniques to protect mobile banking transactions.

I believe AI may have taken the info from a post on X/Twitter by @santanderukhelp but I don't have a Twitter account, so cannot access the discussion.  I don't know whether it's AI or @santanderukhelp that has used the American spellings.

I accepted it just to see what happened and as far as I can see absolutely nothing has happened!

I have looked at the various options on the app and there seems to be no setting or information about San protect even though I have 'turned it on'
  • I was concerned when the App asked me to allow Sanprotect.
    I rang Santander.
    My understanding is this:-
    - Banks have tracked a customer's account activity and have established a 'pattern' of behaviour, concerning spending etc.
They use that to sometimes question a tranasaction. A good thing for me.
    ...
Sanprotect is all about tracking customer activity on the app and on a phone.
Trying to establish if a mobile has fallen into the wrong hands...because the pattern of use seems different...and to keep the customer safe.
I won't be allowing Sanprotect until I know quite a bit more about it.

    I don't think that's going to happen.
If they tell you how it works, they're telling the bad guys how to bypass it as well.

Is that really its name? I read it as "Sans-Protect", or "without protection". Not a great choice of name.  :D

I'll be interested to see if it improves security or just annoys legit customers because it's too fussy about how you type.

From a technical point of view I find it difficult to know how this will work as clearly it cannot make a database of your phone activity unless the app is running

unless by accepting san protect the app then spawns a system thread that runs continuously monitoring your activities and if that activity turns 'unusual' then it can.... well what can it do? Disable the santander app login ?

Our SanProtect tool helps us to detect scam activity when you're using our app. For example, we'll check for any rogue Bluetooth connections."
I'm struggling here. What sort of Bluetooth connection can be set up that would affect banking, and how would they know whether an existing connection is a rogue one or not?

It does make you wonder if the person who came up with the product name considered the possibility that it'll be abbreviated to 'sanpro'....
