Regarding postage. I was just wondering, as a buyer, is eBay’s click and collect worth choosing or should I opt for standard postage?I’ve read some bad things about eBay - click and collect so I’m not sure.
thanks0 -

From a seller's point of view not sure when item is classed as delivered but should be covered by Simple delivery.0 -

So if the buyer wants something quickly you cannot charge them more and, ignoring Simple Delivery label (that will be refunded, I understand), use whatever suits? There’s also no advantage to the seller, in fact it is possibly a disadvantage to post direct. For sellers of expensive items SD is better as eBay take all the risks so as soon as item is sent they no longer have to worry, the tracking is automatically uploaded , label pre generated and their stars etc are protected. If they send direct, even assuming they can reclaim the SD cost (assuming it was sold with free delivery as otherwise buyer gets the postage back) they have to force the system to over ride the tracking which might result in funds being delayed, pay the postage out of their own pocket and deal with all INR claims, and even sort out buyer complaints if item is delayed.
What happened after all was quite unusual to say the least. The ebay estimated delivery time was 23rd of August. The initial Evri estimate was 22nd. The item was finally ready for collection at about 8pm on the 26th, which was tad too late. I have received an email from Evri on the 1st telling me to collect it by the 4th of September or it will be sent back. Yesterday (13th September) night Mr Joy returned to UK so I asked him if he can drop by the parcel shop and ask them nicely, because Evri tracking shows it is still there. This morning (14th of September) he managed to get there and collected the parcel. All he had was my employee ID badge.
That brings questions:
1) Are parcel shops supposed to release high-value items against such an ID to random people?
2) What would actually happen to the parcel if it was left there for another week (or two)? Would it ever be collected and returned to the sender?
3) Who would be responsible for high-value items sent via Evri (as there are alternative courier options) and then stolen from doorsteps?
4) Who would be responsible for high-value items sent via Evri and then damaged by the rain/snow, as we are approaching winter?

I presume that a day or two after the last date for collection the evri network would ping for it to be returned, but whether the parcel shop would know is a different matter.
It seems that carriers like evri and yodel wash their hands of responsibility as soon as they have GPS of being on your property, despite established practice being that they should only leave the parcel in a nominated safe place. Of course just because the driver set foot on your property it doesn't necessarily mean they even took the parcel out of their vehicle.
A parcel damaged after being left safe without your agreement would seem to give a good case for recompense from the sender (who would then have to reclaim from the courier)0 -

4j eBay take the hit if SD was used, if it was custom postage then seller would be expected to cover the cost of either a return or a refund using the SNAD system.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
