    I have sold a heavy book, just under 2 kg in weight, before packaging.

    I listed it to go with EVRi, in the 2-5 kg category, knowing I could find a decent-sized box, add some packing material and hey-presto, all parcelled up and ready to go

    Now, it has been sold, I see eBay have changed the listing to simple delivery, with a Royal Mail price of £3.38.

    Will this cover the cost. I am sure with a box, (yet to find) it will be over 2kg.

    At least with 'pre simple delivery' listings, I could see what I charged the buyer. If I had charged too low, I simply took the hit, but learnt for the future.

    Now I hope there isn't a fee to pay by the buyer, if the item is over 2kg
    Provided you selected the correct category should be no issue (should have been medium parcel if over 2kg)
    If the item was listed before the days of simple delivery it wouldn't necessarily prompt you to enter size and weight. If ebay have now estimated these incorrectly you are covered, however if you have overriden ebay recommendations you may be surcharged. What does the service come up with when you go to generate the label?

    Interestingly enough £3.38 was what ebay charged a buyer for one of my simple delivery items, a portable dvd player which I listed as 2-5kg.

    The label page shows the weight in the box, before you print label.

    Although it has been in operation for 5 months so I don’t think that’s possible!

    It most certainly is possible, I have a lot of things listed from before the rollout which, until the recent expansion to £20, I couldn't amend or list similar items to without accepting simple delivery. Although interestingly I don't think any of my pre-existing listings ever changed automatically (I still have the odd yodel postage listing which gave me a problem when my local drop shop stopped accepting them).
    The poster says the listing has been changed to SD by ebay;

    "Now, it has been sold, I see eBay have changed the listing to simple delivery, with a Royal Mail price of £3.38."

    My understanding is that any new listing for a parcel sized item since feb was SD only, but that the process of automatically changing them over is very hit-and-miss

    My first use of ebay simple delivery (Royal Mail) wasn’t the best.

    I posted an expensive technology item off but the buyer  opened a case against me due to non delivered item, 4 days after I handed it to the post office and posted off (Monday).. the parcel did arrive (Saturday) and the case was closed.

    One thing I learnt, is not to click on eBay, generate label /QR code until the day you are going to post the item on the eBay system it looks like you started the posting process but one main problem is that the eBay estimated delivery times is not realistic. They expect Royal Mail to deliver parcels in 2-3 days when it normally takes 5 working days.

    One question, should I leave eBay feedback now or should I wait until the buyer leaves it for me?

    I would leave it and see what the buyer does.

    As a buyer I don't care if sellers don't leave me any feedback.  In fact I never check whether they do or not.

    Surely though simple delivery was advantageous in this situation as as long as you sent it within the required time frame ebay were responsible for the INR and you would never have been liable for it. If you had posted it without simple delivery then the INR would have been your responsibility and to make it worse, depending on time frames could well have been closed in buyers favour before item eventually arrived, leaving you out of pocket.

    Also buyer can't leave you poor stars for lateness as it is automatically 5 stars when using SD, and if they try and leave a negative then ebay will remove it if it is due to the lateness.

    As for feedback, I assume you mean leaving feedback for the buyer, not ebay? Personally if you think buyer acted hastily then leave nothing at all, otherwise leave them a positive - but remember not to use a negative comment with a positive feedback.

    I notice that choosing custom delivery now gives choice of options like RM 2nd class, RM 2nd class LL rather than free choice as it were.
    Just wondering if this is still free choice to purchase label of your choice (& not even RM necessarily) as it was previously.

    Is there any other option for letters or large letters other than Royal Mail? If your item is a parcel then it can't be custom postage if you're a private seller.
    However you can choose letter or large letter and set your own price as of now.

    Edit: just checked one of my listings and these are the options;
