:j Aha!! I have found the original 'Bugs Bread Making' article if it is of interest to anyone:
http://www.downsizer.net/Projects/Processing_Food/Bread_Making/
Includes tortilla, chapatti, bread rolls, pizza dough, soda bread and scones0 -
Excellent thread. I've merged it with the older one to make it easier for people asking the same question later on.
thanksMay all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
My kids don't like the Lidl ones, bit hard they say. Got a pack of Mission garlic/herb ones reduced at Morrisons just now for 9p. Great deal. Puts off doing my own for a day or two!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

they're lovely filled & folded then 'done' on a George Foreman grill
couldn't agree more, i love doing cheese and apple in the grill ones. my other fave filling is homemade chilli bean spread with salsa; get a tin of mixed beans, whizz in food processor with chopped garlic, some dried chilli flakes, lemon juice and a drop of oil (makes it more paste like) salsa is just chopped toms and cucumber with a bit of lemon juice and oil, yum,:Dtotally a tog!:D0 -
Hiya
I made my first tortilla wraps just now. DH has just had some with corned beef and coleslaw. They're OK.
Close shave though. The recipe I used said, 315g flour, 1tsp salt, 1 1/2 oz lard, 315ml water.
Just before I lobbed in most of the water, it came to me that I only put 320ml in with 500g breadflour when doing a loaf in the BM. So I was cautious!
I looked in the recipe index and couldn't find bread types of things so that I could compare the recipe with others.
What's the difference between flour tortillas and chapattis, apart from their ethnicity?
TORTILLA ECONOMICS
It said for 12, but I think 8 would be more like it.
approx 14p for my flour
bit of oil or fat, tsp salt. gas.
So no more than about 2-3p each. Pack of 8 from the shops, about £1, premium brands, about £1.49.
I'm going to do some of those with herbs in next. Kids will like that. DH would like garlic. me? I'm not too bothered about them really, would rather have some nice malted bread and jam!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

has anyone made tortialla chips from the wraps? as far as im aware its just frying them right?Yes Your Dukeiness0

You can fry them or oven bake after brushing/spraying with oil, oven for about 5 mins each side. I do prefer them made as corn ones rather than with bread flour when making the chips.
chapatis are usually thicker than tortillas, I use chapati flour (can get it in bigger Tescos aswell as ethinic stores) to make them with as I prefer it. Most recipes ask for wholemeal/wholewheat or chapati flour. One day I might be more organised...........

Hi there
I had my 1st attempt at making tortillas last week and they were stunning -and tasted exactly the same when defrosted too:T
I also cut them into wedges and bake in the oven and hubby has them with chilli etc...
the recipe i used was :-
2 cups plain flour
1.5tsp baking powder
1tsp salt
2tsp veg oil
3/4 cup warm milk....
it makes 8 by the way
they tasted better than any ready made ones i have ever had
Have also done pittas and tomorrow im hoping to have a go at piklets or muffins-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
