I still call it a Saturday Saunter too, and always think of HHOD when I do.We bought an expensive gel mattress some years ago and it made such a difference for us. I would 'live on brand' if I had to to replace it.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

You are right to prioritise a good mattress dia. Life can be miserable with a bad back and no sleep. When I first moved I bought a cheaper bed based on reviews and it soon went into the spare room. I have always had s night mattresses bought in the sale. Once you find one that suits you will probably always buy the same one.0% credit card £1360 & 0% Car Loan £7500 ~ paid in full JAN 2020 = NOW DEBT FREE 🤗

For a new mattress, I definitely would look at the Swedish shop if you have one near you - I had to buy new everything moving into my new home post divorce - the mattress I got then is now less at £199, it's firm and pocket sprung.
For washable, anti allergen bedlinen look at the catalogue shop that now lives in the orange supermarket - I'd hope you can get what you need for significantly less than £180. I have to get the anti allergen stuff for teenmonster#2.
Edit to add - for guests the one thing I would spend money on is 100% cotton bedlinen, it's so much nicer than the easy care polycotton stuff.July 2024 £12,150 Aug 2025 B/Card £6,300, N/West £1,770, Halifax £1,182, Klarna £568, Sports Trip £335, Very £122 & HMRC GONE!!!! Total £10,2763 -
Thanks @PennysIntoPounds
Thanks @MatyMoo
Thanks @biggerpickle I saw the Swedish store mattress and I will probably go for that one. It has a topper that costs another £129 that it recommends. Did you buy that too?
I am lucky. I have several duvet sets and sheets already, all cotton, so ok there.
I've been costing everything out. If I buy 2 mattresses + 2 protectors +2 duvets +2 new pillows +2 towels I am looking at several hundred pounds. I don't have enough monthly income to have credit repayments coming out of it. I prefer short term pain to slow paying off stuff. I cleared 25k of debt in 3 years and now even interest free debt makes me shudder. So, I will keep thinking of the best way to do this...
This morning I met a friend on the seafront. I took my flask of coffee, she had something to eat at the shack on the beachfront. We walked a long way. I went to Mr L. and ended up carrying home too much stuff. I need to get a regular online shop as my shopping still feels haphazard...
I was supposed to go to my sewing group but changed my mind as I was too tired.
I am moving furniture around again and clutter is piling up upstairs. I am slowly getting things into the loft room, out of the way.
I hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday. If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

hi DIA
you have probably already thought of this, but before your first guest arrives why not sleep a couple of nights in that bedroom.
We do lots of cottage holidays and I always think that if the owners had slept in there, they would be able to have sorted the little niggles.
Things like an extension lead so that I could plug my phone in without having to move bedside cabinets. A hook on the back of the door for dressing gown. Somewhere for a wet towel. A mat for my glass of water. You must have picked up lots of ideas when you were staying in other people houses as well.
hope it goes well.11
