The criteria for the current £50 "thank you" are very relaxed:

"You must have been a Nationwide member on 30 September 2024. And still be a member when we come to make the payment.

In the 12 months to the end of September 2024, members must also have:

    • had at least one qualifying transaction on your Nationwide current account or savings account, or
    • had at least £100 in total in one or more of your Nationwide current accounts and savings accounts, or
    • owed at least £100 in total on one or more Nationwide residential mortgages."
So there needs to have been 1 "transaction" in any of your current/savings accounts in a whole year. Even if there are no transactions you still qualify if you had £100 in total in all your current/savings accounts at any time during that year.

There are other ways you can be excluded, eg your don't live in the UK.
    Hmmm

What's the betting that this freebie won't actually be payable to many who've received the email.

I don't qualify on that criteria, but have received the email.    (Unless I've had a random penny of interest added)

Shame, you'd think technology could weed out those that don't qualify, rather than get people's hopes up.
I seem recall an interest payment being listed an exclusion - but an ISA from many tax years ago having at least £100 in it would qualify, as the balance means no eligible transactions are needed.
Interest added doesn't count as a qualifying transaction. However lots of things do: "Qualifying transactions included (but were not limited to): card purchases, cash or cheque withdrawals, cash or cheque deposits, internal transfers, Direct Debits, Standing Orders and Faster Payments." So presumably just moving money from one of your accounts to another would count.

If we have any open accounts, they are dormant with zero balance, and have been for years.

Our log ins no longer work either.

I still got the email, as did my OH...

To say thank you, we are pleased to be sending you, and over 12 million of our Nationwide members, a one-off payment of £50 as part of The Big Nationwide Thank You

    ...

To find out more and for full terms and conditions...

    Gotcha 😉

    It's like April Fool's early
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

Maybe you've got money in one of the accounts you don't remember...  although if it has to be £100 in one account, rather than (say) £50 in each of two accounts then it seems an unlikely scenario for a committed MSEer. :)

My wife and I both received the email as we have a joint current account.
    Will we get £50 each?

If it's your only current account with the Nationwide then two payments of £50 should go into it (that's my understanding anyway).

Yes. The FAQ section of the announcement makes that clear.

Well let's face it......the fairer share payout wasn't fair for some people. There were lots of Nationwide members who didn't qualify. This payout goes some way towards making amends.
I didn't qualify for any of the medals at the Olympics last year - doesn't mean they weren't fair tho.
I thought you were robbed in the decathlon!

My wife and I have joint Flexplus and Flex Direct accounts, and a joint RS. Only I got the email. Only I got Fairer Share last year too. Not sure why. We both got it the first year.

Even Nationwide is capable of making a mistake.

That’s got to be a mistake. My wife and I got separate Fairer Share last year. You should make a complaint.
