The IHD, when it's working, will tell you what the current rate is.

I don't think Rosie's got to that stage yet ...

Failing that, the meter display should tell you which register is the active one, at the moment you look at it.
You would think so, but I can't see it. This is what the manual says the display shows:

There won't be much recorded on either register at this stage, so she'd be none the wiser. There's a slim possibility that the tariff prices have been uploaded to the meter, in which case the Now > Price screen would be a good indicator:

After a long night of checking ,

the meter changed over at 12.10 am , and is was on until 7.10 am

You now know that your meter's randomized delay is 10 minutes, so offpeak periods will start 10 minutes after the advertised time.

Now, 'the meter changed over at 12:10 am' could mean one or other or both of:
    1. The TOU register changed from RT1 to RT2, so usage was now being recorded on the offpeak register;
    2. The switched circuit powering your heaters went live and started charging the heaters up (and heating the water tank).
How did you see that 'the meter changed over'?

    (1) would apply if the tariff had been set to Economy 10, but it would also apply if it had been set to Economy 7, because both tariffs include an offpeak period starting at midnight. If it was recording on RT2 until 7:10 am, it sounds suspiciously as though the tariff had been set to Economy 7, which is a bit worrying. You said that the heaters were live (charging up) while the engineer was there, so presumably sometime between 1:10 and 4:10 pm.

You'll have to check very carefully, because it sounds as if the load switch is operating as it should be for Economy 10 and you're getting the afternoon boost you need. When the switched circuit is live, the little L icon should be displayed on the meter's display. This doesn't necessarily mean that the heaters are charging up - they will only do that if they need to, as dictated by the thermostat or other controls.

The worrying bit is that if the tariff is set to Economy 7, any usage after 7:10 am will be recorded on the peak register and billed at peak rate. This includes your afternoon and evening 'offpeak' heating slots. So it's vital to make absolutely certain when the register changes from RT1 to RT2. I'm wracking my brain to find a simple way of doing this, but I'm afraid I'm coming up blank. Let's hope one of the other helpful experts can tell us ...
No the manual states the open L icon is for L contactor open not closed.
Just as tge M version is for open and not shown when have power.
It's ifcax I read the manual therefore present at peak, gone at off peak.
Assuming alcs table and tou charging table time matrices match.

    That's a good sign!
While you should take costs on an IHD with a pinch of salt, if it's saying that you've used 42.94kWh at a cost of £5.41, that's an average cost of about 12.6p/kWh.
You should be able to use the touch buttons on the IHD to get more information regarding your tariff and what ties it swiches from one rate to another.
When you're next up your ladder, you should also see than one of the two registers is now reading much higher than the other one!

You're on E7, then! At least the weather has improved, and hopefully your heaters will stay warm into the evening.

That's not what I understand from the manual. The icon is unchanging (not like on some other meters), and only shows (= 'ON') when the switch is closed. It's of course lamentable that it shows an open switch to indicate a closed one ...

    Relay state icons

M for main disconnect relay, L for ALCS.
    Operating states:
M icon ON: Main supply has been disconnected
L icon ON: ALCS is on
    M & L icons ON: Meter is currently in a ‘Non-Disablement’ period
M & L icons OFF: Supply connected, ALCS off

That was my main concern about the meter change
