last night had the ribs - the meat fell off the bone - with mashed potato and creamed cabbage. Yum!

The ham ribs sound amazing, are they like spare ribs?

Well I'm not starting this challenge till Monday, lucky, as it's chip day at school and I'm just sitting down to sausage, chips & beans and spotted !!!!!! n custard for afters. Oh I'm so gonna miss this next week, I'm wondering how long I'll keep it up!!

  • Count me in! I REFUSE TO SPEND ANY MORE BLOODY MONEY ON LUNCHES!Particularly after I went to an out of my budget bar for food last year and was presented with some chemical slush for over 5 pounds. Enough! From now on, I make my own food. And I eat it! Hurrah!
    Total debt: £3400.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who fritters away money on buying lunch during the working week - which can add up to a serious amount, especially when something else catches my eye... magazines... smoothies... etc, etc!

So, would anyone like to join me in a new challenge for 2008?

The Lunch Log challenge will involve logging how much, if anything, we spend each day on our lunch. Each Friday (or daily?!), we can compare totals to keep us motivated.

Ideas for cheap, tasty lunches to make at home would also be a great addition to this post!

For my first day on the challenge, my lunch spend is ZERO! I resisted temptation and had toast. The £5 in my purse is still intact! :T

  • So far, so good. Am right now making nachos at home for lunch, that cost a damn sight cheaper than having to eat them out. For example, it cost me 50p for a bag of nachos, a pound for a tub of sour cream and another pound for a big slab of extra value cheese lol. It'd cost me that for a smaller quantity of nachos in a cafe, and I can keep the cream and cheese!
Extra bonus points also because I found a pack of minced beef in my freezer so am going to make a big pot of spag bol tonight, and keep whatever is left over for tomorrow's meal :D Perfecto.

Can I join in please, I bring lunch in most of time, but my biggest thing at work is buying diet coke (sometimes 3 a day) and choc from the canteen. It all adds up, so for me it will be trying to not spend anything while I am at work and bring lunch in everyday.

03.01.08 56p Bruch bar as was starving as I did not bring enough food in.

Mmmm, not sure if the ham ribs are a particularly Scottish thing or not (all the wee wivies in the East End of Glasgow use them for soup!) - I've never saw them sold in England, but you could always ask! I get them from my local butcher, just ask for ham ribs/pork ribs - I get a rack for about £2. They do look a bit like spare ribs without the sauce, but poach them for ages and the meat is really tender, not chewy. Hope that helps!
  • All the soup ideas sound fantastic! Although it's making me hungry reading about them!

Just a note - I think I've given everyone in this challenge a number but if I've missed you, please let me know!
