  • Even planned pregnancy is a huge shock when it happens and a well "thats done it now" moments of feeling trapped by the enormity of the situation

  • Bit late to this thread but i find there is always something that u can eat when ur sick - with me it was chocolate (lucky me ey? lol) so do try to find something that doesnt completely turn ur stomach. re age money etc. I was 21 and in uni when i found out i was pg, my OH lived in another country. Flash fwd and i took a year out, moved back to N.I , moved in with OH, had our little girl (who is now trying to bash the keys haha - think she wants to chat too) and im now back at uni in England to complete my degree. I had very little money and we are still renting, so dont worry about not owning a house yet - you could always start looking for a starter home if that is what you really wanted. Money really does have a way of being found when you need it if you ask me :) We have never had to go without and its great to come home to a bouncy happy Annabelle at the end of each day at uni :) but I also know that I personally couldnt have made a choice for an abortion as i really don't agree with it, the thought of not having my little girl makes me agree with my viewpoint more so.
  • Hi everyone, again thankyou to everyone for all of your replies...

Update at the moment is that I'm 75% sure we're going to keep the baby - did a lot of soul-searching and talking over the weekend, looking at finances etc and I think we both feel quite positive. In answer to some peoples questions, OH is, as far as I can tell, feeling very similar to me. I think he's more concerned about me, and the fact that he's aware that I'm younger than him so haven't had a chance to do all the things that he's done. He's been very very good over the last couple of weeks while I've been feeling ill, and I couldn't have asked for anything more. He drops everything for the latest thing that I think I might be able to manage....then looks after me when I throw it up 5 minutes later. He's been very supportive, and I think would stick by me either way, but woudl prefer to keep the baby....

Anyway everyone, thank you for all the messages, I will keep you updated, and any advice on mornning sickness will always be appreciated! Also...anybody who could tell me what tax credits, maternity pay, child benefit we'd be entitled to? Do those start from the day baby's born? I think with those extras we could just about manage to stay where we are, and we would really rather not move unless we absolutely have to....

I am so glad that you seem to be coming round to the idea of keeping the baby. I am all for choice and certainly not anti abortion but reading your posts I don't think you would just forget it and slip back into normal life. My friend had a termination and always gets upset around the time which would be the baby's birthday etc.

    Love and hugs

I found acupuncture a huge help with morning sickness - 2 sessions and mine was gone - but having recommended it to a friend it didn't help her at all.

I assume you've tried the acupressure straps for travel sickness?

I had awful sickness with both my boys and the thing that worked best for me was getting some fresh air. I would walk whenever possible and eat an apple and drink a bottle of water whilst I walked. If I could manage it in the morning (often even before I washed!!!) I often didn't feel quite as sick for the rest of the day. I also ate a lot of warm pitta breads which are really plain.

Maternity pay depends on your employer. You need to check out if they offer any enhanced maternity pay. If you just get basic SMP, it's 90% of your wages for 6 weeks, then around £115 a week. You can start your leave anytime from 11 weeks before your due date up until the birth date. SMP is paid for 9 months and you don't have to return to work. If you get enhanced maternity pay, there may be conditions attached to it, so check them out.

After baby is born, you'll get child benefit. Everyone gets that and it's around £17 a week.

Tax credits will vary on your household income but you should get something. Have a play on www.entitledto.co.uk
Put in a DOB as if baby was here, and then put your salaries in (or an estimate if you are going back part time or nothing if you are going to be a stay at home mum!), and it'll tell you what you are entitled to.

If you do go back to work, you might get help with your childcare through tax credits, or there are nursery vouchers through your pay packet. I've never used either though, so hopefully someone else can explain these better for you.
Here I go again on my own....

They do for me - you can generally buy them in most chemists, so do try and get some asap. I've also seen them in poundland and poundworld.
The ribbed fabric ones I find more comfy than the nylon velcro fastening ones.
