Lately I’ve been wondering about this tv licence as I don’t watch tv, i don’t watch the BBC or BBC iplayer, or other tv channels, and holidays the tv is full of repeats anyway, all I seem to do now is watch either Apple TV, Amazon or one of the other streaming services, so I suddenly thought 💭 do i still need a tv licence?

You don't need a TV Licence if you never watch(*) or record TV broadcasts from linear TV channels or BBC TV on iPlayer.
(*) Where watching includes receiving/streaming broadcasts.0 -
99% you don't, unless you decide to watch some of the live Amazon TV shows..
One thing I hate about TV license is that simply providers like netflix don't have that issue - you don't pay you don't get access, with BBC so many people pay £200/year pointlessly, the TV license rules are written so complicated and so badly written making you think that you need a license no matter what.0 -

In a recent thread, an individual was trying to claim no licence required as, although they were receiving broadcast TV, they were only listening and not "watching"0 -

As I always thought streaming whether it be Netflix, Amazon or other steaming services on your actual tv, it would be an offence if you do get a licence, I suppose I just want someone clear solid clarity and that video on the tv licensing page doesn’t help matters.0 -

you only need it for 'live' TV or BBC iplayer.
watching any catch up TV does not require a licence.
you will need to declare 'no licence required' periodically - I think I do mine every 2 yrs roughly.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Budgeting & Bank Accounts, Credit Cards, Credit File & Ratings and Energy boards.
