Fuse have been contacted by the ombudsman about my complaint. Fuse have sent me a long reply basically stating that, and they say they have confirmed this with OFGEM, that they correctly truncate the daily CV and use that daily amount rather than average it over the billing period. This seems at odds with the OFGEM guidance on the matter and to use their methodology they should actually bill daily.

So what does that actually mean to the consumer?

Is it that they are are being taken for a ride and the consumer has to take it?

Yes. Their method only works to their advantage, it can never work to the customer's adavantage. Every other supplier uses that daily already supplied truncated figure and again truncates the average over the billing period. IMO the guidance is clear and refers to billing periods. To use their method they should bill daily.

Have they effectively said to you that this matter is now closed and that they'll carry on as they are now?

Pretty much. I now have to wait for their reply to the ombudsman and put my reply to that.

Good luck. It sounds like one for Watchdog judging by how much of a battle this is!

The actual £s are not really a big factor, and I am actually up on the deal after their bungs, but how they interpret the regulations which is different to the clear guidance given by OFGEM in the 2014 letter. They are saying they have had a consultation with OFGEM and have had it confirmed that their method is acceptable but how can it be considered acceptable when the wording of the guidance is clearly different. Their billing also falls foul of the requirement to be clear and accurate, how can it be that when the figures shown do not match the calculated bills ? The thing that comes out of this is that their gas rates are not as cheap as stated compared to other suppliers.

With Fuse stating they correctly truncate the daily CV and use that daily amount rather than average it over the billing period, then there shouldn't be corrections to previous months' bills, which is a regular occurrence.

The daily CV is provided by NG truncated,it is not something Fuse do. It is often updated a few days after so it will be the ones for the last few days of the month that can be subject to change and as they calculate daily those daily calculations can change. The sole reason for the monthly corrections is because they are doing the calculation daily, a monthly calculation has an infinitesimally small chance of being corrected.
