Oh well.done on the IKEA shop! Luckily our nearest one is hours away so I don't go often but I always spend more than I expect to, all those things I didnt know I needed.
I'm with you on the dark nights - theyve already set off my hibernation mode and it's only been 2 days !

Another few days of doing not much but work. Also, the fireworks have started so I can't do much in the evenings except sit with my old lady (dog) who's got fearful in her old age. She used to stand in the garden and look at them with me, but one year one caught her by surprise. Luckily the younger dog isn't bothered. It means I've swapped thing's about a bit so I have an hour or two in the day to do chores or go to the shop or whatever, and then I make those hours up working in the evening on the sofa with the pooch.
I have however (from bed this morning) opened a regular saver for my emergency fund. It's only £600 at the moment but I'm finally in a place where I'm confident it will continue to grow and I have other pots for small unexpected costs. I might as well aim for the best interest rate I can get. I'm feeling very grown up. I don't think I've had proper savings since my late teens.
Today should be the last crazy busy day at work (although I'm sure I say this often) so I'm looking forward to having some energy left to do other things.

The freezer is pretty much empty. For tea I had some beef stew, but put the portion in a small glass dish and used the last of the pastry in the freezer to give it a lid and make it a pie! I think I'll buy more pastry but cut it into pie lids before I freeze it.
I'm working from home for the next 2 days, so although I have plenty of work to catch up on I can get house stuff done in between.
I don't quite know what's happened to my money this week, I thought I was going to have a massive underspend, but it's all gone a bit pear shaped all of a sudden. I had to get fuel today for work, which was unplanned. I've also had to get some little bits of shopping because I'm holding off doing a big shop. Lot's of little top up shops have not been good financially.
It's time to start planning my wages and spends for November too. I will have a low wage as I didn't put my mileage in, plus I have the dentist to pay for (about £300) and I really need to start buying Christmas presents.
I'm going to start planning a big shop delivery for the weekend too. I have lots of restocking to do. I need to decide on a few things to batch cook for the freezer too.
So! Lots of planning to do, but I am looking forward to it!Debts 04/01/25 01/11/25

I am definitely being some kind of teeth expert in my next life. I seem to spend a fortune there too

I got my wage slip this morning and if I want to buy Christmas presents this month then I need to cancel the dentist. Hmmmmmm. I can't put anything in my house fund and only half the amount I usually put in my emergency fund. Grim!
So I've panicked and sold some books. I've only made about £12 but every little helps. I have far more books on my living room floor that neither site wanted, so I'll have to find a charity shop that will take them.
I've dyed 2 pairs of favourite jeans, so they are black again. Saved myself a fortune replacing them and I know they are comfy and fit well so I feel like a winner. £6 for two new looking pairs of jeans.
My low wages might spur me on to start getting things on vnted again too.
I will definitely be doing my mileage and expenses tomorrow!
I've eaten from the dregs of the freezer and pantry again today - chorizo quesadillas for lunch and pork egg fried rice for tea. I did buy myself to chocolate though as my energy is still ridiculously low. I slept for about 90mins after work and really struggled to last til 5pm.

I should get £100 compensation from 1st D next week, and £100 for switching to Coop. Fully intending to use it for reducing debts but the really low wage today is making me consider taking maybe 50 of it as money earned and putting towards the dentist or Christmas presents. Not ideal but it might stop me burying my head in the sand, spending money I don't have, and taking it out of my emergency fund in 3 weeks time. I'll have a think today.

Happy new name!
It makes sense to split the extra money if it's a tight month, no point in adding stress!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee3 -
You can't move Christmas and you need working teeth, so if the essential debt payments will be covered, get those two biggies sorted.
No shame in life happening, and I bet you'll feel more motivated and productive once you can breathe a sigh of relief3 -
I am not a fan of Christmas, and I do tend to leave things to the last minute, but the thought of not being able to buy a single Christmas present until the 1st December is too much even for me. I'll put £50 aside (out of the switch money) for any Christmas presents I see between now and then.
I've just started doing my debt list. Some of the DDs haven't cleared yet because it's a weekend, but the final figure this morning was 30,010. I cannot sit here knowing I'm that close to the 30k goal I set for myself, so I've transferred extra to one of the credit cards from the switch bonus. I'll check it again in an hour before I can change save my table and change my signature. It won't have all the payments showing until Monday but I'll still be very proud if I can say my debt is under 30k! I had set that goal for the end of the year so I am almost 2 months ahead of schedule.Debts 04/01/25 01/11/25
