Can anyone help me with this please?

Yes, but not for free.
You also run the risk of that the new line rental provider will block access to other carriers, such as 18866 and 1899, so you would end up paying more in the end, just by trying to save 50p at best.Live in my shoes for a week, then tell me your lifes hard!0 -
YOU DO STILL GET IT FREE,I HAVE HAD MY PHONE CALLS THRU AOL FOR 2 YEARS NOW,AND HAVENT ONCE IN THAT TIME PAID a penny for caller display:beer:
Both Talk Talk and One Tel have switched to the new system so the chances are Aol Talk will follow,so keep an eye on your bill.;)
PS. Their is no need to shout.:D0 -
Thanks billsavings and yes AOL Talk have followed.
Using 1280 to make the two BT chargeable a month essential to avoid paying for the BT Caller Display does not work.
It has been said elsewhere that using a BT Chargecard to make the two calls will cause them to be charged to the BT telephone account and my question was has anyone had experience of using the BT Chargecard for this?

Why do you not believe what was said elsewhere?
And to extrapolate further, will you believe what anyone says here?

Pinkcloud, if it has been said elsewhere, care to tell us where?

I'd be very grateful if you or anyone else knows the answer to my question which was will making calls on a BT Chargecard record chargeable calls on the BT account for the purpose of the free Caller Display when calls are are being provided by AOL, Talk Talk etc.

MSE Instructions state:-
"The site’s motto is “Please be nice to other MoneySavers”. It should go without saying, but please remember that when using this forum".0 -
Mygoose, welcome to these forums.
Thankyou for taking the trouble to register with mse just so you could remind me of this particular rule.
I also note that you have posted the exact same message elsewhere.
I would ask you to explain why you thought my post contravened that rule, but that might be wandering a bit far off topic.0 -

I had no idea that I had to make a minimum of calls with BT to prevent penalties:eek:
I just checked my last 2 bills online (who knows how long I've been getting extra charges though  ). I don't recall ever being told by BT that I had to make a minimum of calls to qualify for free caller display and 1571, Both of these services show up as FREE in my account's list or services. There doesn't seem to be any easy to find small print (an oxy-moron?). The perils of paper-less billing, you can forget to check it.
Last quarter I was charged over £8 for low usage - 1571 and caller display! My calls are automatically routed to Virgin Media, although I use 18185 most of the time. I'm such a light user of my landline, I'm gutted that I've been paying these extra pounds every month; wish I'd investigated my online bill sooner  . That'll teach me, but life gets in the way sometimes.
I've emailed BT and hope to get an explanation, but reading this forum has clued me in a bit already.
(I'm thinking of changing to Post Office unlimited/line rental incl. Broadband, but will miss 'free' caller-display - pah!).0 -

Hello freespirit
Here is the link about the two calls having to be made
http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayProduct.do?productId=CON-3399&s_cid=con_FURL_personal/privacyathome&bvurl=/personal/privacyathome
Much of the discussion here has been about the fact that the 1280 referred to in the link no longer works and how to get round that to make two chargeable calls.
