  • Much has been said about free caller display from BT. I subscribed to it free last summer when I installed a BT In Touch (analogue) alarm phone. Today I have only just realised from my bill that I have been charged £4.46 per month for the last 3 months. My sin is that I don't use BT for my calls. I am a pensioner and get a better service from Saga. Apparently the changes were in some link on one of my online bills when the policy was changed.

EARLY WARNING! the operator informed me that from March? the 1571 service will be chargeable to customers who do not use BT for making calls.
Needless to say, I have cancelled both services

Yes, been mentioned several times on here and elsewhere over the last few months.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

As Heinz said, it's easy to get round the '6 calls per quarter' requirement.
Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
    They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").

    Indeed I did.

Nevertheless, I approve of everyone dumping 1571!
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Thanks - post #1 amended accordingly.

  • Hmmmmm, looks too good to be true...

Does this involve ditching the CPS provider (TalkTalk in my case) and going to BT?? I notice they state
Dodgy. Just as BT should be :p Can anyone help on this ambiguity?? :D
BT have told me that you have to make five (5) local calls through BT to qualify for Free Caller display. If you are with Talk Talk, You can do this by dialing 1280 before dialing the local phone number. It works for me.

It's 6 chargeable calls per quarter (or 2 per month) actually.
